Recap
The
B-Mets got a mixed effort from both their starting pitching and their offense
Wednesday night, which left them short of a win against New Britain, and
dropped them back to a .500 record at 42-42. Gabriel Ynoa worked quickly and
efficiently, limiting the Rock Cats to 3 runs on 7 his over his 8 innings,
which required only 78 pitches. He probably could’ve stayed on for a third
straight complete game bid in the 9th, but with the B-Mets already
trailing, Pedro Lopez brought in the fresh arm of Jon Velasquez to make sure
the deficit stayed at 1 run. The B-Mets bats would connect for 2 runs on 3 hits
in the 1st inning, but then failed to get a hit with a runner in
scoring position the rest of the way, going 2-11 in those situations overall.
Ynoa’s
start looks solid overall, but he induced 0-swinging strikes and only the 2
strikeouts on the night, which is not usually a recipe for success. He retired
6 of the first 7 Cats batters in the game, but then ran into trouble during the
3rd inning. The first two would reach on singles, and both would
score from a single later in the inning. The game would remain tied until the 6th,
when Juan Ciriaco doubled to LF off of Ynoa, and then Mike Tauchman knocked him
home with an RBI single to CF. Ynoa would retired the final 7 Cats batters to
face him in the contest, but the B-Mets could not scratch out the tying run.
It’s the third straight start of 8+ IP for Ynoa, and he has a 1-2 record during
those starts.
The
series wraps up Thursday afternoon at 1:05 PM, with Michael Fulmer scheduled to
pitch for the B-Mets.
Scoring Highlights
Gavin
Cecchini and L.J. Mazzilli led off the 1st with back-to-back
doubles, and then Josh Rodriguez singled home Mazzilli later in the inning.
Cecchini
would add a pair of singles in this game: with Gabriel Ynoa on 1B and 0 outs in
the 2nd, and with Eudy Pina on 1B and 2 outs in the 8th.
Brandon
Nimmo added a pair of singles: leading off the 3rd inning, and with
two outs in the 7th – he’d be thrown out after taking too big of a
turn around 3B when Josh Rodriguez followed with a double in the 7th.
Bonus Defense
Xorge
Carrillo got to show off his arm from behind the plate in this one, throwing a
runner out at 2B, and picking this runner off at 1B.
Gavin
Cecchini committed his 19th error on this lazy throw he made during the
5th inning, but he handled the other balls hit his way with no problems.
