Recap
The
51s and Aces played a tight game dominated by pitching in their series finale
Monday night, with the Las Vegas offense coming up empty against Reno starter
Caleb Clay. Both sides managed just 5 hits including a pair of doubles, but
Reno was able to string together a few base runners before both of their
doubles, which allowed them to knock in 3 runs against Las Vegas starter Darin
Gorski across his 6 innings. Gorski had poor control throughout the start
Monday night, which led to 6 walks over his 6 innings, including several on
just 4 pitches. Cody Satterwhite was great in relief of Gorski, facing the
minimum over 2 perfect innings, as Wally pushed him to 30+ pitches for a second
straight appearance (he threw a season high 48 pitches Friday night). The 51s
would bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the 9th inning
after consecutive walks, but neither Las Vegas pinch-hitter could keep the
wheel turning: Cory Vaughn struck out and Jayce Boyd hit a groundout to 2B that
ended the game.
The
51s head to Sacramento Tuesday to face the River Cats, with Dillon Gee (4-1,
6.35 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas, and a 10:05 PM scheduled start
time.
Darrell
Ceciliani had a pair of singles in the game.
Wilfredo
Tovar and Travis Taijeron each pulled a double down the 3B line.
