Post-game recap: Knuckleballer
Mickey Jannis made his second start for St. Lucie since the Mets signed him
away from the Long Island Ducks, and while he was wild at times, he kept the
PSL Mets in it long enough for them to come back and win. The Mets jumped out
to a 1-0 lead in the 1st when Dominic Smith doubled home Champ
Stuart. Lakeland would jump ahead against Jannis in the 4th, scoring
two runs on 3 singles and a HBP. Jannis allowed two more runs in the 6th,
with the second run coming home on a throwing error from Dominic Smith. Cruzado
and Sabol would pick RBI singles as the Mets tied the game in the 7th,
and then Cruzado sparked the game-winning rally with a leadoff double in the 9th.
Rosario would knock him home with his fourth single of the game to give St.
Lucie a late lead that Robert Coles would protect in the bottom of the 9th
– the only hitless AB for Rosario came when he reached on an error in the 7th.

Post-game recap: The
K-Mets won a tightly played battle with Elizabethton Friday behind another
strong pitching performance from Audry German, who has now allowed just 3 ER
over his last 22 IP (3 starts). Kingsport jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd
inning when Kacz led off with a single, stole 2B, and then came home on an RBI
single from Rojas. In the 3rd, Mazeika doubled with two outs and
then came home on an RBI single from Ortega. The only run the Twins would score
against German came in the 4th, when LaMonte Wade in a one out
homerun to RF. Carpio led off the 8th inning with his second walk of
the game, and then came home on an RBI single from Kacz. The insurance run
would prove huge, as Joe Shaw allowed a two out solo blast in the 9th
before finishing the game with a strikeout.

Post-game recap: As
is often the case for these GCL games, the results play second fiddle to the
rehabbing players active for the game. In this case, Jhoan Urena made his first
appearance since May 20th, and Luis Mateo made his second rehab
appearance of the season. Also of note, converted catcher Keaton Aldridge, who
the Mets signed as an undrafted free agent a few weeks ago, made his pro debut
in relief. His appearance played a huge role in this game, as he came in with a
3-0 lead, but left with the GCL Marlins about to charge ahead 5-3. The Mets
would get a run back in the 9th, but their comeback came up short.
Minors MVP of the Day
– Gavin Cecchini had a monster night, and he's putting together a nice season for a 21-year old SS in AA, which has earned him a spot on the All-Star roster.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Another rookie ball pitcher stood out among the pack, with Audry German putting together another great start for Kingsport.
