Post-game recap: St. Lucie missed a few chances to score early as Dunedin built up their lead against Kevin McGowan, who was missing bats at a good rate, but giving up hits at a poor rate in this start. The Jays jumped ahead with a 3 run blast from Derrick Loveless in the 2nd, and then scored a pair of run after an E3 in the 5th. The Mets only runs came in the 5th, and they only had one hit in the frame (see the tweet below). Starting with McNeil, 3 of the first 4 batters in the frame walked to load the bases, and then a run scored on an E3. After a pitching change, Rosario followed with a single lined to RF that brought home Cruzado to make it a 5-2 game, but then Urena and Plaia went down swinging to end the threat.

Post-game recap: The Sand Gnats split a double-header with Asheville Thursday night, but more importantly, they got Wuilmer Becerra back and healthy enough to play in both games. The Sand Gnats won game one on a walk off hit from Luis Guillorme in “extras,” but then could only muster one hit in the nightcap. Both Sand Gnats starters were a little wild Thursday night, combining for 5 walks and 2 HBP over 11 IP. Game one: After Mora doubled Nido to 3B in the 2nd inning of game one, Lupo picked up and RBI groundout for the Gnats first run, and then Biondi followed with an RBI infield single to the second baseman. Asheville jumped back ahead with 2 runs in the 5th thanks to a wild inning from Reyes, who had a string of HBP, walk, HBP during the frame. The Gnats came right back and tied it in the bottom half of the 5th, when Lupo launched a blast to left-center field. In the 8th, Biondi reached on a throwing error from the Asheville shortstop, stole 2B, went to 3B on a sac bunt, and scored the winning run on the walk off single to RF from Guillorme. Game two: Johnson and Guillorme led off the bottom of the 1st with back-to-back walks, and then Johnson came around to score on a sac fly from Eudor to put Savannah up 1-0. Gibbons got wild in the 3rd, issuing consecutive walks with one out, and the Tourists took advantage by tying the game with an RBI single to RF. A leadoff double led to the Tourists second run in the 4th, and they’d add two more against a wild Darwin Frias in the 7th. The Sand Gnats only hit in game 2 was a double from Joe Tuschak leading off the 3rd.

Post-game recap: The Cyclones and Staten Island Yankees squared off in a game played on SNY Thursday night, but I do not get that channel down in Atlanta, so I was unable to check it out personally. I’ve included some clips that were tweeted out below, but I wish I could offer more, as Matt Blackham was absolutely dominant in this start. Unfortunately, the Cyclones bats were once again unable to get much going against Staten Island’s pitching, and they’ve now been limited to just 2 runs on 10 hits over the first 2 games of the series. The lone run of this game came in the 5th, after Brandon Wagner led off with a single to LF. After a sac bunt moved him to 2B, Ryan Krill knocked him home with a single to CF. I’ve posted a few highlights that were tweeted out below, but I’m hoping better coverage will be available from SNY on this one.

Post-game recap: The K-Mets came out on the wrong side of a back-and-forth affair that went to extras in Princeton Thursday night, falling to .500 as they lost their second straight. After throwing a no-hitter during his last start with the GCL Mets, Merandy Gonzalez was not nearly as sharp for Kingsport in this start, but some sharp defense behind him kept the K-Mets ahead early. Raphael Ramirez and Luis Carpio led off the game with singles, but Dash would ground into a double play to stifle the rally, although they still got a run out in the frame for a 1-0 lead. They extended their lead to 2-0 without the aid of a hit in the 3rd inning, as Canelon walked, moved to 3B on an E1, and then scored on a wild pitch. Zacrey Law would put the Rays on the board in the 3rd with his third homerun of the season, a solo blast to LF. After getting wild during the 4th and 5th innings, the K-Mets chose to remove Merandy after 4.2 IP and bring in Chase Ingram, but Ingram allowed a 2R homerun to the first batter he’d face, which tied the game at 3. Mazeika hit a blast of his own with one out in the 6th, but then the Rays charged ahead with 2 runs on 2 doubles and an RBI single in the 6th. The Rays would load the bases against Ingram in the 7th, so the K-Mets went to Seth Davis, who had a great appearance overall, but allowed an inherited runner to score on a wild pitch before he could get the third out of the 7th. Mazeika sparked a two out rally with a double to RF in the 8th, and then Luis Ortega kept things going by reaching 1B on a wild pitch after he struck out. Kacz followed with a 2-run single to RF that tied the game up at 6, which is where it stood when Witt Haggard took over in the 10th. Haggard has struggled early on, but this is his debut season, so don’t stress over results too much. He allowed a double, HBP, and single to load the bases, and then the Rays won on a walkoff fielder’s choice grounder to Burdick.

GCL Mets 11-10

Joel Huertas @ Ryan McKay
vs. GCL Marlins (10-10) at 12:00 PM
Yesterday: W 5-4
Today: W 3-2 F/5 (Rain), Huertas (W, 2-1, 2.21 ERA) – 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 6 SO, 8 GO: 1 FO
Lineup
CF – Ricardo Cespedes – 0-2, R, BB
SS – Milton Ramos – 0-3, SO
C – Ali Sanchez – 1-2, R, BB
RF – Jose Medina – 0-3, SO
1B – Victor Moscote – 1-2, 2B (4), 2 RBI (5), BB
LF – Kenneth Bautista – 0-3
2B – Franklin Correa – 1-1, R, BB
DH – Yeffry De Aza – 1-2
3B – Luis Crisostomo – 1-2, 2B (1), RBI (3)

Post-game recap: In a game that featured 0-rehabbing players for a change, the Mets won in 5 innings when the game was called to rain. The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when Moscote doubled home Cespedes (walk) and Sanchez (single). After retiring the first 6 batters, Huertas allowed a triple and then a double leading off the 3rd, with the tying run coming home on an E6 – good to see Ramos back at SS, but then he commits a “key error”. Crisostomo doubled home Correa (single) in the 4th inning to put the Mets back on top, and that’s where the score was when Mother Nature cut in.

Minors MVP of the Day – LUTZ! Huge return for the once interesting Mets prospect, who was added to the team out of nowhere Thursday afternoon.

Minors Cy of the Day – I didn’t get to see it unfortunately, but Matt Blackham proved too good for the NYPL once again Thursday night, with 10 K’s in 6 IP.
