Post-game recap: Martires Arias shined for the St. Lucie Mets in his FSL debut despite battling some control problems throughout, allowing only 4 hits. He throws a low-90’s heater that will top out around 94 MPH, a sharp breaking slider, and a changeup – check out the Astromets Mind recaps from April 13th, April 26th, and July 8th for GIF coverage of Arias. Phil Evans picked up 2 hits for the fifth straight game, and 7th time in his last 14 starts. Evans picked up the second of 3 straight singles to start the 4th, with Ricardo driving home Amed Rosario after him. Cruzado would add a sac fly in the inning to give St. Lucie a 2-0 lead, and that’s how the game would end. It is the third shutout in 4 starts for the St. Lucie Mets, and the Mets starters now have a streak of 27 straight scoreless innings thrown.

Post-game recap: K-Mets ace Harol Gonzalez was smacked for 3 homeruns in Princeton Wednesday night, and the P-Rays kept adding on for an 8-3 win in their series opener. Harol would allow the first Princeton homerun of the night with two outs in the 2nd, but Dash knocked a 2R blast in the 3rd to give the K-Mets a 2-1 lead. Brett Sullivan would hit a 2R-HR for Princeton in the 4th, and the Rays never looked back. Mazeika singled home a run for Kingsport in the 7th, which made it 4-3 for a moment, but then Princeton got that run right back in the bottom half, and added 3 in the 8th.

Alejandro Castro (S, 1, 3.00 ERA) – 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, HR, 2 GO

Post-game recap: Another day in the GCL, another strong rehab performance from a Mets prospect. This time it was Chris Flexen, who doubled his innings total for the season, and allowed only 2 base runners in his 3 innings. Jhoan Urena had a quiet day at the plate, but Ivan Wilson had a hit, walk, stolen base, and (most importantly) 0 strikeouts. Still no word on the sudden demotion of Milton Ramos, or why he’s playing 2B, but he knocked in the first run of the game with a single in the 3rd. After Wilson walked and Medina doubled him to 3B, a wild pitch gave the Mets a 2-0 lead. Sixto Torres struggled with control in the 4th, but limited the damage to just one run. De Aza and Dimino had back-to-back RBI singles for the Mets in the 7th, and De Aza added another RBI single in the 9th for a key insurance run. Side-arming Alejandro Castro allowed runs for the first time in his pro career, but induced a double play to end the game.

Minors MVP of the Day – DASH! Winningham is off to a great start for Kingsport, and picked up his 5th homerun in 78 AB’s while raising his average to .295 Wednesday. Wonder if he can mash his way into Brooklyn this summer.

Minors Cy of the Day – Martires Arias was excellent in his Florida State League debut, throwing 7 scoreless innings on the strengths of a low-90’s fastball, and very effective slider.
