Recap
The
Fresno Grizzlies jumped out to a big lead against Luis Cessa Monday night,
while the Las Vegas never really got going against Brett Oberholtzer, which led
to a third straight loss for the 51s. Cessa was wild early and then hit hard in
the 3rd, as the Grizzlies jumped out to a 7-1 lead that knocked him
out after 3 IP. The 51s activated Tyler Pill before the game, and he was
effectively wild in his first appearance since 6/29. Chase Huchingson and Vic
Black both allowed a run out of the 51s pen after Pill went 3 innings, but the
game had felt over long before either entered.
Due
to the AAA All-Star break, Cessa hadn’t pitched since 7/9, so if he rebounds
over the next few starts, then we can probably just blame this start on rust.
He threw a first pitch ball to the first four batters of the game, and each
would come around to score. After rebounding with a perfect 2nd
inning, the Grizzlies rallied for 3 runs on a pair of doubles, an RBI single,
and an RBI triple.
The
51s would manage only 3 hits in the game, and only one came after the 4th
inning. Brandon Allen got them on the scoreboard with a leadoff homerun in the
2nd, lining a blast just over the RF wall. In the 4th,
Travis Taijeron singled Zach Lutz (walk) to 3B, and then Lutz came home on an
RBI groundout from Brandon Allen. The only other Las Vegas hit was a double from
Cory Vaughn in the 7th.
This
series continues Tuesday night at 10:05 PM, with Matthew Bowman (6-10, 5.53
ERA) scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas.
