Recapish
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies got a lead and got five innings in before the rain
came Friday night, which was enough for a 3-2 win in their series opener with
Harrisburg. Tommy Milone made his second rehab start and finished just one out
shy of what could’ve been a complete game. Drew Smith finished off the 5th
for Milone and threw one pitch in the 6th before the umps called for
the tarp, and the rains never let up enough for the game to resume.
The
Ponies jumped ahead with three runs in the 1st, and then the bats
went quiet. Luis Guillorme started the road trip with a single flared to left
field, went to third on a Kevin Taylor single, and then came home on a passed
ball. Kevin Kaczmarski then made it 3-0 with a two run double to RF that was
initially misplayed by Senators outfielder Yadiel Hernandez (he initially broke
in and then ball ended up sailing over his head).
Milone
took the mound with a 3-0 lead in the books and quickly retired the Senators in
order during the 1st. Harrisburg then jumped on him for two runs on
back-to-back extra base hits in the 2nd. Raudy Reed started the
frame with a double to RF and then Hernandez went deep to LF. The Senators
continued to make good contact against Milone throughout his start, and they
kept the pressure on with base runners in every inning, but Milone was able to
hold onto the 3-2.

Give way to the Major League |
After
their 1st inning scoring outburst, the Ponies managed just two more
hits: a single from Juan Lagares in the 2nd and a single from David
Thompson in the 6th. Also shown below is Victor Robles in CF.
With
Milone’s pitch count at 69, Drew Smith was called in to finish the 5th
with a runner on first base and two outs. He’d need just two pitches for the
out, but that was enough to earn him a win, which is about as fair as him
earning a loss for allowing an unearned run in extra’s during his first outing.
I’m not sure the pitch he threw in the 6th will actually count as an
official pitch, but he did throw one pitch, and it was hit a long way but foul.
Looking ahead, the Ponies have two
chances to clinch their fourth straight series win this weekend. Marcos Molina
and rehabbing Robert Gsellman are scheduled to start for Binghamton this
weekend, so I like their chances. The series continues Saturday night at 6:00
PM.
