Recapish
The
Colmbia Fireflies lost their starter to an injury and then lost this game in a
blowout Friday night. Chase Ingram looked a little uncomfortable from the outset
Friday night and eventually left in the 3rd having thrown just 44% strikes.
Keaton Aldridge gave the Fireflies three great innings of scoreless relief, but
Cola was already down 5-0 when entered, and the Hickory Crawdads exploded for
ten more runs after he left. Recently acquired Ryder Ryan made his affiliates
debut with a scoreless 6th while hitting 97 MPH with his fastball.
Unfortunately he stayed out for the 7th, which is when Hickory
started adding on to their lead.
No
indication what’s happened to Ingram yet, but he walked off on his own accord
and had serious command issues, so it’s likely an arm injury, which is what the
game log says – the game log also says Andres Gimenez left with a leg injury
when that pitch clearly hit him in the arm, so it cannot be trusted. The
Crawdads talented lineup took advantage of Ingram’s control issues with a
five-run 2nd inning, which was capped by a two-run triple off the
bat of Leody Taveras. Ingram walked the first two batters of the 3rd
before the trainer and his Manager came out to get him.
Keaton Aldridge worked around those base
runners for a scoreless 3rd and gave Columbia the type of
performance that often starts a comeback effort. He retired all nine batters
faced and finished with three strikeouts, putting a freeze on a very dangerous
Crawdads lineup.
Unfortunately,
while Aldridge was putting up zeros, so were the Cola bats. The managed just
two hits through the first five innings: Luis Carpio singled in the 1st
and Brandon Brosher singled in the 4th.
Ryder
Ryan finished a scoreless 6th with a strikeout of Taveras, but he
ran into some trouble in the 7th. He allowed back-to-back singles
ahead of Anderson Tejeda, who took him deep for his fifth homer of the year.
Ryan bounced back to retire the next two and finish his night with a strikeout
of Brendon Davis.
Jay
Jabs connected on the third Cola hit of the game when he singled in the 6th.
The
Fireflies finally got on the board with a run in the 7th.
Unfortunately the rally started with the Gimenez HBP and departure, but at
least he wasn’t seriously hurt. J.J. Franco followed by singling pinch-runner
Colby Woodmansee to second before Carpio could single him home.
Hickory
put this game out of reach with a six-run 8th, with all six unearned
runs charged to Taylor Henry. There were two errors, two wild pitches, and a
passed ball before Henry gave way to infielder J.J. Franco, who actually
stranded a base runner. Franco finished the game out on the mound for Columbia,
and limited Hickory to just one more run in the 9th.
Brandon
Brosher connected on a solo blast for Columbia in the bottom of the 8th,
which was a nice treat for any Fireflies fans sticking around – and there are
plenty that do.
Looking
ahead, the Fireflies turn to Marty Anderson as they look to snap this two-game
losing streak in game three of the series.
