Recapish
After
cruising to a 6-1 win in the opener Friday, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies bats
went quiet in the nightcap, and the Akron Rubber Ducks squeaked out a 2-1 win.
Ponies’ starter Marcos Molina had a little trouble with walks, but overall
turned in a solid performance, he just didn’t get any run support until the
final frame. Dale Burdick had a very nice game at the bottom of the Ponies
lineup, but his three hits were half the Ponies total, and his teammates could
never get him home.
Marcos
Molina was having a little trouble locating early, which led to a pair of runs
on two walks and four hits allowed over the first two frames. The RBI double
from Ivan Castillo was the only extra base hit against him all day. He limited
Akron to just two singles the rest of the way but he walked an additional two
batters, although none of that amounted to more runs for Akron.
Dale
Burdick connected on a single in all three of his at bats Friday night: he
singled and reached third base in the 3rd, he singled and reached
second base in the 5th, and then he singled and got nowhere in the 7th.
The
other three Bingo hits: Tyler Moore singled Burdick to second in the 5th,
David Thompson singled Luis Guillorme (walk) to second in the 6th,
and then L.J. Mazzilli put Bingo on the board with a solo blast in the 7th.
Looking
ahead, the Ponies will look to gain an edge in this series behind Mickey Jannis
on Saturday.
