Recapish
Despite
a strong start from Chase Ingram, the Columbia Fireflies couldn’t salvage a
split against Augusta before hitting the road, falling 6-0 in the finale.
Perhaps the Cola bats had been sent ahead to Charleston, because there was
little offense from the Fireflies lineup on this Sunday. The Fireflies managed
just three singles and four walks, and they never got a runner beyond second
base.
Cola starter Chase Ingram was very sharp early but struggled with his command over his final two-plus innings of work, which is when the Green Jackets jumped ahead 3-0. He retired the first twelve Augusta batters in a row, striking out three along the way.
Ingram’s
outing turned foul when he walked the first batter of the 5th. He
retired the next two Green Jackets batters but then Shawon Dunston Jr. came
through with an RBI single for Augusta to make it a 1-0 game. Ingram threw a
wild pitch and issued a walk in the 6th, when Augusta made it a 2-0
game. Lastly, Ingram hit the first Augusta batter of the 7th before
departing, and that runner came around to score and make it a 3-0 game.
The
Fireflies only hits came from J.J. Franco and Dan Rizzie in the 6th,
and then Luis Carpio in the 8th.
Lefty
Taylor Henry finished the 7th for Ingram and then started the 8th
with a strikeout, but he’d have to leave after the next three reached to load
the bases for Augusta. All three runners came home to double the Green Jackets
lead and put this game further out of reach.
Looking
ahead, the Fireflies head to Charleston for a three-game series with the River
Dogs. Lefty Martin Anderson is scheduled to make his SAL debut for the
Fireflies in the opener on Monday opposite Yankees prospect Adonis Rosa.
