Recapish

The Rumble Ponies made it two straight over the Eastern League’s best with a game one shutout Thursday night, and Corey Oswalt did his best Greg Maddux impersonation in the win. Oswalt needed just 79 pitches for the win and the game was over in 79 minutes, which set a franchise record for quickest game ever. The Ponies scratched out some early runs against Trenton starter Daniel Camarena, and then it was cruise control for both pitchers after that.
The Oswalt coverage will be quick, like his outing. That’s because he allowed just two hits all night, and they were both singles from the first two batters he saw. After that, he retired twenty batters in a row, and that streak started with a double play, so that was the game. He struck out two in a row to end the 3rd, and that started a streak of five straight frames ending with a strikeout. He went to a three-ball count on just two batters all night. It was seven innings of dominance that earned a game score of 84.

The Ponies scratched out the first run of the game in the 2nd. After a walk, David Thompson came around from first on back-to-back two out singles from L.J. Mazzilli and Gustavo Nunez to make it 1-0.

Guillorme led off the 3rd with a single, went to third base on an E6, and then Matt Oberste singled him home for the second run of the game.

The only batter to reach after that for either side was Tomas Nido, who worked a one out walk in the 4th and was stranded on first base.
This was easily the quickest baseball game I’ve ever seen played, which was convenient, because these two teams still had one more game to play on Thursday. The nightcap features a matchup of Jose Mesa and P.J. Conlon, and the Ponies have a chance to sweep.
