Recapish

Casey Delgado gave the Binghamton Rumble Ponies some great length Tuesday night in Erie, pitching into the 9th for his team-best tenth win of the season (that’s second best in the EL). He limited Erie to two runs while he was on the mound, although a third run was charged to him after he left the game. The heart of the Binghamton lineup led the offensive charge, as Matt Oberste, Tomas Nido, and David Thompson each connected on two hits. Thompson had a huge night and is now up to 26 doubles (3rd in the EL), 12 homers (t-23rd in the EL), and 57 RBI (15th in EL) this year for Binghamton, all of which are team highs.
Delgado did issue three walks Tuesday – two of which came in the 1st inning – but he was otherwise very efficient, needing more than eleven pitches in a frame just once (during that 1st inning). Those two 1st inning walks came back to burn Delgado when Steven Moya doubled one home for an early Erie lead. However, Delgado settled in and threw six straight scoreless frames after that, which allowed his teammates to take control of this game.

Thompson at third

Guillorme at SS

The only hit Akron starter Matt Crouse allowed over his first 3.2 IP was a 2nd inning single from Matt Oberste, and Oberste was erased on the bases due to a double play. But L.J. Mazzilli kept the 4th inning alive by working a two out walk, and then the heart of the Ponies lineup connected on three straight doubles to make this a 3-1 game – Thompson’s double went off the wall near the 357’ mark. Also shown below is Guillorme's single

Binghamton added some key insurance runs in the 7th to extend their lead. Tomas Nido led off the frame with a single and David Thompson followed with a two-run bomb to make it 5-1.

Those runs loomed big when Gabriel Quintana homered in the 8th, and proved crucial after Cory Burns allowed an inherited runner to score in the 9th.
Looking ahead, the Ponies will take advantage of the length Casey Delgado provided them with Tuesday during a bullpen game on Wednesday. Scheduled rehab starter Robert Gsellman has been recalled to start for the Mets, so Kelly Secrest will start things for Binghamton and Manager Luis Rojas will try navigating from there. The Ponies are in second in the EL for team ERA, and the Ponies pen has the edge over the starters, so they should be able to manage for one start.
