Recapish

The Mets 1st round pick from this draft David Peterson made his second start of the season for the Brooklyn Cyclones and left with a 1-0 lead Friday night. Of course, he left in the 2nd inning Friday night and this game didn’t end until Saturday evening, so it wasn’t exactly standard procedure. This game was delayed in a 1-1 tie in the top of the 6th, and they eventually chose to suspend it overnight and finish it before Saturday’s scheduled game. It was all Hudson Valley after the game resumed, and the Renegades went on to take the opener 4-1.
Like most new college starters within the Mets system, Peterson is on a tight innings limit as a pro in his debut season, so it wasn’t surprising to see him done at 39 pitches. He worked around some 1st inning weirdness for a scoreless frame, and then had to leave one out shy of 2 IP when his third strikeout came on a wild pitch that allowed Bill Pujols to reach.
The first batter he faced in the 1st reached on an infield single through his legs and then advanced on a wild pitch. The next batter hit a grounder to Carl Stajduhar that might’ve been two without the wild pitch, but turned into zero because of a weird turn of events. Stajduhar went for and missed the tag on Vidal Brujan, and then his throw to first base was late. David Peterson responded by striking out Brendan McKay for the first out of the frame. Brujan was then caught trying to come home on a double steal attempt for the second out, which was key for Peterson getting through a scoreless frame.

In the 2nd, Peterson issued a leadoff walk but picked that runner off at first. In addition to Pujols, Peterson also struck out Rafelin Lorenzo during the frame, but Oscar Rojas doubled off him between the strikeouts. Trey Cobb took over for Peterson with runners on the corners and two outs in the frame and finished things with a strikeout Deion Tansel.

While Peterson was the focus of many in attendance, the Cyclones jumped out to a 1-0 lead while he was still in the game. Quinn Brodey tripled to start the 2nd and eventually came home on a sac fly form Stajduhar.

Carlos Sanchez started the Cyclones 3rd with a single to right field.

Although this was presumably Trent Johnson’s start to piggyback, Cobb stayed out there for the 3rd and Hudson Valley tied things up against him. Carl Chester tripled and scored to make it 1-1.
Brodey and Jeremy Vasquez singled for Brooklyn to start the 4th, but the Cyclones weren’t able to get either home and left the bases loaded in the frame. Also shown below are the 5th inning singles from Dylan Snypes and Jose Medina.

Johnson did take over in the 4th and gave Brooklyn two scoreless frames before the rain came.

CS for Sanchez

When the game resumed Saturday, the Cyclones missed a scoring opportunity (from walks) in the top of the 6th and then Conner O’Neil took over for the bottom half. O’Neil allowed a two out RBI double to Pujols, which gave the Renegades a 2-1 lead. O’Neil stayed on for the 7th and tossed a scoreless frame with one strikeout.

Sanchez singled again to start the 7th, and again Brooklyn got nothing out of it. It was the only Brooklyn hit after the game resumed on Saturday.

The Renegades capped their scoring for the game with a little two-run rally in the 8th against Gregorix Estevez.

Stajduhar at third

Looking ahead, the Cyclones had Matt Harvey and Tony Dibrell ready to go for Saturday’s scheduled game, which still started at 7:05 PM Saturday night.
