Recap

The Binghamton Mets lost a closely fought pitcher’s duel in their opener against Altoona Friday night. Starter Michael Fulmer set a AA-season high with 5 strikeouts, but he was effectively wild (and throwing hard, stadium clocked at 96 MPH multiple times), allowing only 1 one run despite 4 walks. The B-Mets took a 1-0 lead early, but Altoona was able to bring home a leadoff double in the 3rd to tie the game. That’s where things stood when Bobby Parnell entered in the 7th, and he looked poised to maintain the status quo while looking sharp against the first two batters. He lost the third batter (Adam Frazier) to a walk, and Frazier would steal 2B after getting little attention from Parnell. The next batter would pull a chopper through a hole on the right side of the infield to give Altoona a lead, and that was that. Parnell was hitting 92 MPH with consistency on the stadium gun, but B-Mets announcer Tim Heiman was questioning the accuracy of the gun. After a hit in each of the first 5 innings, the final 15 B-Mets batters of the game would be set down in order.
The B-Mets continue their series in Altoona Saturday at 6 PM, with Robert Gsellman and Michael Conforto scheduled to make their AA debut’s.

Scoring Highlights

Josh Rodriguez hit a solo blast with two outs in the 1st for the B-Mets only run.

Jared King reached on a one out single in the 2nd – sometimes a guy just needs a few bloops to fall and suddenly they’re hot, right?

Gavin Cecchini picked up singles in the 3rd and 5th innings.
