Mets Series in Review: @Cubs

Dates: May 11-14
Results: Lose 4 :(
Current Record: 20-15, 1st place, 1 Game lead over Washington

MVMet: Lucas Duda struck out far too much this series, but you can’t argue with the production when he made contact, which produced a 1.214 OPS for the series. (It was tempting to go with Harvey)
LVMet: Michael Cuddyer beats out Kirk Nieuwenhuis because of the higher salary and expectations for him, and the fact he was bad for twice as many PA’s. Hopefully his slash looks very different in a month, because LF has been one of the biggest black holes for this team.

Bullpen

            5.19 ERA, 8.2 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 8 BB, 8 SO, HR, 9 GO: 5 FO, 8 IR – 2 S

It was a forgetful series for the Mets bullpen, who couldn’t protect the one lead they were given, and overall did not put up good numbers. Buddy Carlyle has a high ERA, but he had 9 of 11 scoreless appearances, and had stranded 8 of 11 inherited runners, so the loss hurts, even if Terry was not using him much lately. There is a lot of bullpen talent unavailable due to injury or suspension right now, but the Mets had made it work pretty well up to this series. If used correctly, this bullpen can still be effective for the Mets, although I have little faith in Terry’s old school managing tactics.
