Recap
The
Las Vegas 51s couldn’t overcome a five-spot that the Rainiers put up against
Darin Gorski in the 3rd, as their offense failed to show up again in
Tacoma. Gorski and the 51s pitching was great outside of that 3rd
inning, combining to allow only a double and a walk during the other 7 frames
that Tacoma came to the plate. Las Vegas would immediately start chipping away
at the lead, cutting the lead to 5-4 by the middle of the 5th, but
could only muster two more base runners over the final four frames.
Gorski’s
results continue to be alternate between the extremes – he’s either been
shutdown good (2 ER or less in 5 starts), or blown out bad (20 ER in his other
3 starts, spanning 10.1 IP). He had been cruising early, retiring 8 of the
first 9 when all of the trouble started with two outs in the 3rd, as
the next four Tacoma batters would reach and score: Austin Jackson walked,
Ketel Marte hit a three-run homerun (a line drive blast that just got over the
wall), Stefen Romero singled, and then Jesus Montero hit his 5th
bomb of the year (no doubter to left-center field). Gorski would work around a
leadoff double allowed in the 4th, and a leadoff walk allowed in the
5th, before yielding to the pen in the 6th.
Check
out the highlights from the offense below. This series wraps up Tuesday at 2:35
PM, with Duane Below scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas, and the 51s needing a
win for the split.
After
the 51s were set down in order in each of the first 3 innings, Darrell
Ceciliani led off the 3rd with his third triple of the year. T.J.
Rivera would follow with an RBI single, but the 51s couldn’t get a rally going.
The
first three Las Vegas batters in the 5th would reach on a walk
(Brooks Conrad), and then back-to-back doubles (Brandon Allen, and then Travis
Taijeron). Dan Rohlfing would make it a 5-4 game with an RBI single to bring
home Taijeron, but they never threatened to score again.
