The Sand Gnats lost a back-and-forth affair in the opener of a 3-game set against Asheville on Memorial Day. Corey Oswalt treated Asheville like the Tourists they are, allowing 11 hits, although he stayed stingy by giving out 9 singles. Asheville jumped on him for a run on 3 straight singles to start the game, which was the start of a long night working from the stretch for Oswalt. His only clean inning was the 4th, but he had limited the damage to two runs through 6 innings. Savannah had tied the game up in the bottom of the 3rd, and then taken a 3-2 lead in the 5th, but they struggled with RISP (3-12 for the game), and left 8 men on base. The top of the lineup got the 3rd inning started with consecutive singles, and then advanced to 2B and 3B on a groundout. Eudor Garcia would line a single back up the middle to bring home Johnson, but the Gnats chose not to send Guillorme with only one out. Stefan Sabol followed with a strikeout, one of the worst possible outcomes, and then the threat ended on a pop out to 3B. Vicente Lupo doubled and reached 3B in the 4th, but for the third time in two games, the Gnats couldn’t get him home on a double. After J.C. Rodriguez led off the 5th with a single, Eudor drove him in with a triple pulled down the RF line, and then came around to score for the lead. Poor defensive execution did Oswalt and the Gnats in during the top of the 7th, as they botched consecutive sac bunt play, with Oswalt throwing the second one away, which allowed a run to score.

Minors MVP of the Day – Matt Reynolds had a 3-hit, 2-double day, which hopefully signals the end of the slump he's been in the past two weeks.
Minors Cy of the Day – Duane Below pitched his second straight CG in the PCL. He once again needed less than 100 pitches. What is going on Duane Below?
