Akeel Morris (S, 4, 2.00 ERA) – 2 IP, 2 K

The Mets came out on the right side of a great pitcher’s duel this afternoon, taking advantage of some Charlotte miscues in the 5th and 8th for their runs. Kevin McGowan had arguably his best start since joining the St. Lucie Mets last year, shutting down the best team in the FSL for 6 innings – he actually held Charlotte scoreless for 5.2 IP in his last start, but then couldn’t finish the 6th, and ended up charged with 5 runs. McGowan would face similar 6th inning drama in this game, as the first two batters reached on a double and E6, but he retired the final 3 in a row to escape the jam. The Mets bats were pretty quiet too, but things bounced their way a couple of times. In the 5th, Amed Rosario led off with a single, moved to 3B on consecutive groundouts, and then scored on a fielding error by Willy Adames. Another error from Adames in the 8th opened the doors for a 3-run frame, as Maikis and Evans picked up RBI singles – the inning was cut short when Dominic Smith was thrown out trying to advance to 3B on Evans single. After McGowan’s great effort, the Mets turned to their top two relievers, letting Mike Hepple handle the 7th, and then Akeel Morris worked back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to finish the game. Michael Conforto hit two doubles in this game, one off the RF wall that was 'knocked down by the wind,' and then another off the left-center field wall.

Colin Rodgers (1-3, 2.57 ERA) @ Martires Arias (2-1, 3.23 ERA)
vs. Lexington (15-20) at 2:05 PM
Yesterday: W 5-2 (Savannah, Lexington)
Today: L 3-1, Arias (L, 2-2, 2.87 ERA) – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 6 SO, 2 HBP, 99 Pitches (67 Strikes), 7 GO: 6 FO
Lineup
RF – Patrick Biondi – 1-4, CS
SS – Luis Guillorme – 1-4
CF – John Mora – 0-3, BB, SO
1B – Jon Leroux – 0-3, GIDP
3B – JC Rodriguez – 0-3
DH – Eudor Garcia – 2-3, R, HR (1), RBI (3), SO
2B – Jonathan Johnson – 0-3, SB (7)
C – Tomas Nido – 0-3
LF – Vicente Lupo – 0-3, 2 SO
Bullpen:
Ben Griset (2.25 ERA) – 1 IP, H, BB, 1 GO
Darwin Frias (2.70 ERA) – 1 IP, H, R, BB, 2 SO, 1 FO

The Sand Gnats tough season continued, as they lost a close pitcher’s duel against the Legends. Martires Arias turned in another fine start, but the bats did not pick him up – he has now allowed 2 ER or less in 5 of 6 starts, and pitched into the 7th inning in four straight starts. After back-to-back singles leading off the 2nd, the Legends sac’d the runners over to 2B and 3B, and then a run came home on a groundout. Arias got the results he wanted in the 5th, but one groundball found a hole on the left side for a single, and then J.C. Rodriguez made a throwing error with two outs that allowed the runner to score. The Sand Gnats got their only run in the bottom of the 5th, when Eudor Garcia hit his first bomb of 2015 out to RF. Ben Griset worked around a couple of base runners in the 8th. Darwin Frias struck out the first two in the 9th, but then allowed a walk and a double, which allowed an insurance run to come home. The only real scoring threat the Sand Gnats had in the game came during the 8th inning, when Jonathan Johnson stole 3B with two outs.

Minors MVP of the Day – Only two choices stick out in my mind, and Eudor Garcia edges Michael Conforto because his fly ball ended up over the wall.
Minors Cy of the Day – Several choices here, but Seth Lugo was brilliant again, and deserved a win for Binghamton - what a great story he's been!
