Recap

The B-Mets came out on the wrong side of a pitcher’s duel Sunday afternoon, getting shut out for the first time in 2015. Binghamton starter Seth Lugo matched zeros with the EL ERA leader Matt Boyd for 7 innings, allowing 2 ER or less for the 5th time in 6 starts. Boyd has baffled B-Mets batters three times already this year, allowing only 3 ER in his 18.2 IP against Binghamton (that’s actually more than he’s allowed to everyone else in 25.2 IP), but the Mets got to him for 7 hits Sunday, they just couldn’t score. Chase Huchingson came in for the 8th and had a forgettable outing, which was made worse when Julian Hilario was brought in for his first AA appearance in a bases loaded situation – an easy choice to question in hindsight. Hilario would hit New Hampshire batter Jon Berti in the back of the head with a fastball, but it appeared that the batting helmet took the brunt of the blow, and that Berti was OK (still removed from the game of course). Hilario would have to be bailed out of a bases loaded situation himself in the 9th, but Dario Alvarez was able to come in and get the final out.
Check out some of the offense and more on Lugo below. The B-Mets have Monday off, and then start a 3-game series in Harrisburg Tuesday at 6:30 PM.

Scoring Highlights

Jayce Boyd picked up a two-out single in the 1st.

Xorge Carrillo, Eudy Pina and Jairo Perez strung together 3 singles to load the bases with one out in the 2nd, but then Gilbert Gomez ended the threat with a GIDP (No coverage of the Perez single).

Jared King hit a single in the 3rd inning, 2 pitches after Gavin Cecchini (walk) had been caught trying to steal 2B.

Boyd hit a one-out double in the 6th, tying him for the EL league lead in doubles.

Pitcher Coverage

Seth Lugo

The legend of Seth Lugo grows! What a fun story his success continues to be. Every year some prospects surprise you, and Lugo has been the best surprise in the Mets system so far this year. His command left him during a 4-pitch walk in the 4th, but then he bounced back to strikeout the next batter on 3 pitches, and otherwise had very good control. The walk was only the 5th one he’s allowed all season, against 33 strikeouts, for a 25 K%: 3.8 BB%. He worked a 1-2-3 frame in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th, allowing only one base runner to reach 3B, and one other to reach 2B. Now that he had enough innings to qualify again, he’s up to 6th in the EL ERA leader boards.

K1: High Fastball, swinging strike
K2: 89 MPH Fastball, called strike, outside edge
K3: Breaking ball (Looked like a slider from reverse angle), called strike, inside edge
K4: High Fastball, swinging strike
K5: Curveball, called strike, inside corner at the knees “completely fooled the batter”
K6: High Fastball, swinging strike
