If you submit questions to
@StLucieMets on twitter, he’ll answer them during the game. I asked him about
Jhoan Urena, and he said that Urena had to leave the game Friday night after
taking a swing during his first AB and injuring his left wrist. He noted that
Urena hasn’t been placed on the DL yet, and is still with the team, so things are
likely not considered to be that bad.
Here’s an
interview with Las Vegas 51s president Don Logan and Manager Wally Backman
about the state of the team.
After successfully pitching on
consecutive nights, Dan Warthen said Vic Black is ready
to be activated.
Adam Rubin’s weekly
Farm Report focuses on Robert Whalen, who has been working on his changeup
so far this year, although his curve has apparently looked masterful
at times.
Expect Travis d’Arnaud rehab updates
throughout the week, as he’s expected in a game
for PSL on Wednesday.

On a night when the story was the Mets rehabbing catcher
Travis d’Arnaud, the game was dominated by pitching, as neither team scored a
run after the 1st inning. Lakeland put up a 4-spot against PSL
starter Logan Taylor on 5 hits and 2 walks in the 1st, but then
Taylor and the Mets pen shut the Flying Tigers down, allowing only four more
base runners, and none past 1B. Taylor just couldn’t get the first out in that
1st, allowing 5 singles and a walk before the Mets turned a double
play behind him. One positive from the 1st was the respect shown to
Michael Conforto, as the Tigers chose to hold speedy leadoff batter Jiwan James
at 3B on a single lined towards Conforto. Jeff McNeil manufactured the Mets run
in the bottom of the frame, leading off with a single, before stealing 2B, and
then advancing to 3B and home on consecutive groundouts. The Mets would not
have many chances to claw their way back, and could not pick up the big hit when
they did. Travis d’Arnaud came up with Stuart on 2B and one out in the 3rd,
but he’d groundout to the second baseman. Dominic Smith lined a one out double
down the RF line in the 4th, but he’d be stranded at 2B. They wouldn’t
add another base runner until the 9t, when Conforto reached on an infield
single with one out.

The Sand Gnats rode another great start from Casey Meisner,
and a big day at the plate from J.C. Rodriguez, to an easy 7-2 win over those
Tourists from Asheville. Meisner retired the first 7 batters of the game, but
then his first walk of the game broke up the streak. Savannah jumped ahead with
a 3-run rally in the 3rd, which was started when Johnson hit a one
out double. JC would bring him home with a single two batters later, and then scored
when the inning was extended by an Asheville fielding error. Becerra jumped at
the opportunity from the mistake, lining a double into LF to bring home Eudor
Garcia. Shane Hoelscher jumped on the first pitch from Meisner with two outs in
the 4th, and pulled it over the wall in LF (it’s 322 feet down the
LF line, 310 in RF). The Gnats would extend their lead in the 5th,
when the first four batters of the frame reached, with Eudor providing a
two-run single. Asheville scored another two-out run against Meisner in the 6th
thanks to Omar Carrizales, as he singled and stole 2B to get into scoring
position for Luis Jean, who singled him home. JC led off the 7th with
a solo blast to right center field, extending the Gnats lead to 6-2. Johnson
came through with a two-out RBI single in the 8th, which gave him a
3-hit day.
Minors MVP of the Day
– J.C. Rodriguez had a great day for Savannah, reaching base in all 4 PA's, and adding his second bomb of the year.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Best start of the day was not from the rehabbing major leaguer (who doesn't really need to be rehabbing) but from the young stud who just missed my top-10 prospect list this year - I had him ahead of Marcos Molina due to the fears around Molina's mechanics.
