Keeping
track of the hottest minor leaguers in the Mets farm system.
Hitter of the
Week: Kyle Johnson doesn’t get to play everyday in a crowded Las Vegas
rotation, but he made the most of his playing time this past week, leading all
Mets minor leaguers with his 1.250 OPS.
Starting Pitcher
of the Week: Tyler Pill had been showing signs of adjusting during his
first few weeks in the PCL, and then broke out with two great starts last week.
Relief Pitcher of
the Week: Adam Kolarek has been nearly unhittable since changing his
arm-slot a few weeks ago, and he allowed only one base runner in his 5.2 IP
last week.
Team of the Week:
Only one team finished with a winning record, so the Las Vegas 51s get the nod.
Las Vegas 51s 25-13
4-3
record
Pitchers
Darin Gorski – 6 IP, 4 H, R, 2 BB, 5 SO, 94 Pitches (61
Strikes), 5 GO: 3 FO; Results either very good or very bad so far for Gorski - recap
Steven Matz – 7.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 SO, HR, 100 Pitches
(69 Strikes), 8 GO: 3 FO; Doesn't appear to need much more time in the minors - recap
Tyler Pill – 2 GS, 2.40 ERA, 15 IP, 8 H, 4 R, BB, 14 SO, HR,
.413 OPS, 204 Pitches (133 Strikes), 17 GO: 7 FO; No plus pitches, but control's his repertoire well to both sides of the plate - recap
John Church – 3 G, 1 Save, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 SO, .690
OPS, 4 GO: 1 FO, 3 IR – 0 S; He's been cruising lately, showing a nice slider
Batters
Darrell Ceciliani – 11-27, (.407/.393/.444), 3 R, 2B, 3 RBI,
SF, 2 SB, 5 SO, 2 CS; Made some great defensive plays in CF this past week too, it won't be long until he's making his major league debut
Kyle Johnson – 5-12, (.417/.417/.833), 5-12, 3 R, 2 2B, HR,
5 RBI, SB, 2 SO, CS; Johnson has been running amok when given playing time for Las Vegas, accumulating 7 stolen bases in just 27 games
Binghamton Mets 21-16
3-4 record
Pitchers
Michael Fulmer – 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 SO, 92 Pitches (59
Strikes), 11 GO: 3 FO; Recently said he's trying to throw the curveball less - recap
John Gant – 6 IP, 4 H, R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 101 Pitches (62
Strikes), 8 GO: 5 FO; Results haven been a little inconsistent from start-to-start, but nice overall start after skipping A+ level ball - recap
Rainy Lara – 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 SO, 87 Pitches (61
Strikes), 3 GO: 3 FO; He's had a nice first half, and may end up making some start for Las Vegas this year
Seth
Lugo – 2 GS, 2.77 ERA, 13 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 14 SO, HR, .657 OPS, 188
Pitches (130 Strikes), 12 FO: 8 FO; Keep paying attention to Seth Lugo, he's been one of the best stories in the minors so far this year - recap
Gabriel Ynoa – 7 IP, 3 H, R, 2 BB, 4 SO, HBP, 98 Pitches (63
Strikes), 11 GO: 4 FO; Hasn't been the best start to 2015 for Ynoa, but hopefully this is a sign of the tide changing
Adam Kolarek – 3 G, 1 Save, 5.2 IP, H, 4 SO, .100 OPS, 10
GO: 3 FO, 1 IR – 0 S; Kolarek has faced the same teams multiple times since changing his arm slot, and he still hasn't allowed a run
Batters
Jayce Boyd – 10-28, (.357/.419/.500), 6 R, 4 2B, 3 RBI, 2
BB, HBP, SB, 4 SO, 3 GIDP; He hasn't been the smoothest out in LF yet, and teams test his arm every chance they get, but Boyd has been hitting plenty lately. Now we just need to start seeing some dingers
Dustin Lawley – 5-13, (.385/.467/.769), 2 R, 2 2B, HR, 2
RBI, 2 BB, SB, 3 SO; Surprised Lawley is still in AA, but should see AAA this year, and will probably put up big numbers in the PCL
Eudy Pina – 7-16, (.438/.471/.625), R, 2B, 3B, BB, 4 SO; He's starting to draw walks and pick up extra base hits, but he needs to stop striking out so frequently
Aderlin Rodriguez – 5-13, (.385/.467/.385), R, 3 RBI, 2 BB,
4 SO; He'll be losing playing time to recently added 1B David Cooper, but he's been putting better at bats together, and making some good contact during an 8-game hitting streak
Josh Rodriguez – 7-22, (.318/.423/.545), 5 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI,
3 BB, HBP, SB, 3 SO; Excuse me for being less than excited about a 30-year old crushing AA pitching
St. Lucie Mets 16-21
3-4 record
Pitchers
Robert Gsellman – 8 IP, 5 H, R, 5 SO, 9 GO: 7 FO; Should be joining the AA rotation after the FSL All-Star game, so late June
Kevin McGowan – 6 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 SO, 6 GO: 4 FO; He hasn't had the best transition to the FSL, but held the best team scoreless over 6 innings, after holding them scoreless for 5.2 IP in his previous start (he would eventually be charged with 5 runs in that start)
Robert Whalen – 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 SO, 8 GO: 3 FO; He had his curveball working well for him in this one. Hasn't has as smooth a transition as Gsellman, but he's been just fine so far in 2015
Mike Hepple – 2 G, 3 IP, H, SO, 3 GO: 3 FO; This indy-league pick up is sitting 93-95 MPH with his fastball and working with an extended scoreless inning streak
Akeel Morris – 2 G, 2 Saves, 3.2 IP, 3 SO, 4 GO: 2 FO, 2 IR
– 1 S; He's been nearly unhittable so far, but still allowing too many walks
Batters
Maikis De La Cruz – 9-25, (.360/.433/.480), 6 R, 3 2B, 4
RBI, 4 BB, SF, 2 SB, 4 SO, CS, GIDP; He's striking out a little more this year, but the power trade-off has been more than worth it, as his production has surged in his second year with St. Lucie
Jeff McNeil – 11-23, (.478/.519/.478), 6 R, RBI, 2 BB, HBP,
SAC, SF, 2 SB, 3 SO, GIDP; It won't be much longer until this smooth swinging infielder is playing in Binghamton, but who gets the starting 2B job, McNeil or Mazzilli?
Matt Oberste – 4-12, (.333/.429/.417), 5 R, 2B, 2 HBP, GIDP; He's been behind Dominic Smith on the depth chart since last year with Savannah, but has 10 home runs in 468 PA during that time
Amed Rosario – 9-27, (.333/.379/.444), 4 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 2
BB, SB, 4 SO; Impressive that he's already starting to show some improvements in his K: BB, and hasn't looked 'that' overmatched at any point this year
Dominic Smith – 8-26, (.308/.379/.423), 6 R, 3 2B, 9 RBI, 3 BB, SB, 3 SO, GIDP; Finally breaking out of that early season slump, now if he'd only start hitting some homeruns
Dominic Smith – 8-26, (.308/.379/.423), 6 R, 3 2B, 9 RBI, 3 BB, SB, 3 SO, GIDP; Finally breaking out of that early season slump, now if he'd only start hitting some homeruns
Savannah Sand Gnats 13-22
2-4 record
Pitchers
Martires Arias – 7 IP, 5 H 2 R (1 ER), 6 SO, 2 HBP, 99
Pitches (67 Strikes), 6 GO: 6 FO; The big and skinny Arias has been extremely consistent for Savannah this year
Josh Prevost – 8 IP, 10 H, 2 R, BB, 5 SO, 91 Pitches (62
Strikes), 8 GO: 6 FO; Not the first time he's averaged less than 3 pitches/PA during a start this year, but he got much better results this time
Scarlyn Reyes – 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, BB, 4 SO, HBP, 8 GO: 3 FO
Brad Wieck – 6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 11 SO, HBP, 100 Pitches (65 Strikes), 2 GO: 1 FO; The big lefty has been putting up some big strikeout performances recently, but has been burned by 'the big inning' in his starts
Batters
Patrick Biondi – 8-17, (.471/.471/.529), 3 R, 2B, 2 RBI,
GIDP, CS; Speedy outfielder has been a relative on-base machine for the Sand Gnats so far
Luis Guillorme – 8-25, (.320/.333/.320), 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, SF,
SB, 3 SO; He's consistently been a .310+ average hitter this year, and he's controlling the strike zone, now if he can just start finding those gaps
John Johnson – 5-16, (.313/.400/.563), 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3
BB, SF, SB; This Indy-league pickup from 2014 is having a nice season, and may force his way up to St. Lucie. T.J. Rivera-like player
Stefan Sabol – 6-18, (.333/.429/.611), 2 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, SB, 6 SO; He's likely headed for a promotion to St. Lucie at some point this year, just needs that LF spot vacated...
