Recap
The
Binghamton Mets ended four of their scoring threats with double plays Tuesday
night, which is how a team scores only 5 runs on 15 hits, including 5 extra
base hits (2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR). Despite all of those wasted opportunities, the
B-Mets might’ve won if not for a big 7th from Portland against
starter Gabriel Ynoa and reliever Adam Kolarek, who had been Mr. Reliable the
past 4 weeks. Kolarek came in with runners on the corners and one out, looking
to keep it a 3-2 game, especially since the B-Mets had just broken through in
the bottom of the 6th. Kolarek allowed an RBI single to the first batter
he faced, but then struck out Marco Hernandez for the second out of the inning.
Unfortunately, the next two batters would reach, as Portland built an 8-2 lead.
The B-Mets would scratch out 3 runs over the 7th and 8th innings,
and then Vic Black and Bobby Parnell kept Portland at bay in the 8th
and 9th innings (see below for more details), but Portland’s 8-run
total was out of reach.
Check
out more from the game below, including GIFs of the offense and details from
the rehab assignments. This series continues Wednesday at 6:35 PM, with the B-Mets
scheduled to send Dillon Gee to the mound.
Gavin
Cecchini led off the 1st with a single, but Jared King killed the
momentum with a GIDP.
Aderlin
Rodriguez hit a two out double in the 2nd.
Eudy
Pina got his big day started with a leadoff single in the 3rd – the
B-Mets would load the bases with one out in the frame, but Jayce Boyd killed
the momentum with a GIDP.
Pina
picked up a one out single in the 5th on an 0-2 count.
Josh
Rodriguez led off the 6th with his 9th blast of the year.
Boyd and Dustin Lawley followed with singles, but Xorge Carrillo killed the
momentum with a GIDP. Aderlin followed with his second double of the game,
driving in Lawley from 2B.
Pina
led off the 7th with a triple, and then scored on a sac fly from
Cecchini.
Lawley
hit a single in the 8th, and then came home to score on Aderlin’s
third extra base hit of the game, a blast to left center field.
Eudy
Pina finished his big day with a single leading off the 9th.

It
was another weird start for Ynoa, who was great in 5 of the innings, but
struggled during one stretch in the 3rd – allowing back-to-back
homeruns, followed by a double to the LF corner – and then left with runners on
the corners and one out in the 7th. He had zero strikeouts and only
one swinging strike in the game, which is just not going to play, even in AA,
because even on a night when he was otherwise rolling, he ran into trouble.
Both homeruns were on fastball that didn’t get inside far enough, the second
one coming in at 94 MPH to a lefty. Not sure what’s going on here.
Vic Black
Was mostly 92-93 MPH on the
scoreboard, per
Lynn Worthy. Announcer Tim Heiman was suggesting that he may be done with
Binghamton since he got over the hump of pitching on consecutive days.

Bobby Parnell
Apparently Parnell reached 97 MPH
on the stadium gun, which would be very nice. He’s been behind Black all year,
but he’s making strides every time out there. It wasn’t a save situation, but
he held Portland scoreless after the B-Mets had just made it an 8-5 game in the
8th.
