Bullpen:
Kyle Regnault (2.16 ERA) – 2.1 IP, H, 2 BB, 4 SO, HBP, 3 GO
Akeel Morris (1.48 ERA) – 0.1 IP, GO, 3 IR - 0 S
Akeel Morris (1.48 ERA) – 0.1 IP, GO, 3 IR - 0 S
The St. Lucie Mets have had some of the hottest hitters in
the FSL over the past few weeks, and were led by three of those hot hitters
Sunday: Oberste’s 4 hits, Smith’s 3 hits, and Rosario’s 2 hits. They scored all
10 runs over the first 3 innings, which is 3 more runs than Fort Myers had
allowed in any game this season before Sunday. Tucker Tharp got his first start
(courtesy start?) with St. Lucie, and he led off the game with a single lined
into LF. With two on and one out, Oberste picked up his 8th double
of the year to make it a 1-0 lead. Dom Smith followed with a 2-run single lined
into left center field, going to 2B on the throw home. Smith would advance to
3B when Rosario singled into RF, and then come home to score on a wild pitch.
They had an impressive stretch in the bottom of the 2nd, picking up
5 straight hits from Cruz to Sabol, including 4 extra base hits: Maikis doubled
to LF, Oberste doubled to RF to bring him home, Smith singled to put runners on
the corners, Rosario tripled them both home, and Sabol picked up his first A+
extra base hit to make it an 8-0 game – also, for the second straight inning
Alfredo Reyes “looked overmatched” striking out against A+ ball pitching.
Dominic Smith would keep his ridiculous doubles streak of late going in the 3rd,
driving in two more runs in the process. That 3-inning stretch was the game, as
the Mets pitching just needed to show up to win. Miller Diaz continues to be
wild as a starter, making me believe it won’t be long until he’s moved to the
pen for a Savannah starter (Meisner and Wieck have been the top two, Reyes and
Arias are too old for the SAL). Kyle Regnault continues to impress from the
pen, making me hope that he joins Binghamton’s pen for the 2nd half
– bye-bye Huchingson or Alvarez?
And Akeel Morris bailed Regnault out in the 9th when he got a
little wild and loaded the bases.

Lineup
CF – Patrick Biondi – 2-4, R, 3B (1)

C – Tyler Moore – 1-2, RBI (3), SF, GIDP

Bullpen:
Ben Griset (1.80 ERA) – 1.2 IP, 2 h, R (0 ER), 2 SO, 2 GO: 1
FO, 1 IR – 1 S
Paul Paez (0.96 ERA) – 2 IP, 2 H, R, 1 GO: 5 FO
David Roseboom (1.50 ERA) – 1 IP, 2 GO
Savannah had a chance to get back to .500 with a win Sunday, and things were going well through 4, but then Charleston exploded for 8 in the 5th and never looked back. After the first 6 Gnats batters were set down in order to start the game, Jon Leroux started the 3rd with a double, and then came home on a triple from Joe Tuschak. Tyler Moore would follow with an RBI groundout for the early 2-0 lead. Meanwhile, Oswalt had allowed a hit in each of the first two innings, but both runners were erased – PO and CS. Charleston would get runners on the corners on against Oswalt in the 3rd, but he got out of the jam with a strikeout of Angel Aguilar. He’d work his only 1-2-3 inning in the 4th, before things went very, very wrong in the 5th. The first three batters would reach to load the bases (walk, single, HBP), and then Yyan Lindemuth kept the train rolling with an RBI single. The Gnats couldn’t turn the double play on a grounder from Devyn Bolasky, but they got the out at 2B, which was the only out Oswalt would get. The final 3 batters reached on a double, E6, and an RBI single to make it 6-2. They’d add two more runs with Ben Griset on the mound (thanks to a sac fly and an E3) before Radley Haddad struck out swinging for the third out. In total, they sent 12 men to the plate in the 5th, and the Gnats committed 3 errors in the frame. The Gnats would scratch out another run in the 8th thanks to the leg of Patrick Biondi, who legged out a leadoff triple on a line drive to CF.

Minors MVP of the Day
– Aderlin Rodriguez edges Matt Oberste’s 4-hit day by launching 2 bombs for
Binghamton. It’s looking like a 3-man race between those two and Dominic Smith
for Mets minors’ player of the week.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Steven Matz was very good again for the 51s, and is at a point where the Mets
are stopping him early in starts to save those bullets for later in the year.
