Binghamton evened the series in Richmond behind a strong
start from Rainy Lara. The B-Mets started the 4th inning with 3 straight
hits – T.J. Rivera singled, Jayce Boyd doubled him home, and then Josh
Rodriguez hit a two-run bomb, his 7th homerun of the year – and
suddenly found themselves winning 3-0. Lara would help add an insurance run in
the 4th when he led off with a double, and then came around on an
RBI single lined into RF by Brandon Nimmo. He got stronger as the start went
on, but manager Pedro Lopez chose to bring in Chase to face a tough lefty after
Lara allowed a two-out single in the 6th. Chase had no problem finishing
off the 6th, but then got into trouble in the 7th, and
needed to be bailed out by Paul Sewald. Jared King was double switched out when
Sewald came in, which is a normal game situation move, just less common to see
in the minors.

Kyle Regnault (2.81 ERA) – 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, BB, 8 GO: 3 FO
Akeel Morris (S, 3, 2.25 ERA) – 1.2 IP, SO, 2 GO: 2 FO, 2 IR – 1 S
With Sandy Alderson in attendance for a kid's day at Tradition Field, the PSL Mets bats finally came to life, breaking a 6-game slide. Dominic Smith was a driving force in the offense for the first time in nearly a month, picking up just his third multi-hit game of the season, and first since 4/16. After De La Cruz doubled home McNeil in the 1st, Smith picked up a two-run single. Rosario and Evans would follow with back-to-back doubles to give St. Lucie a 5-1 lead. Dom later added an RBI ground-rule double in the 4th to give the Mets a commanding 8-1 lead. Miller Diaz did a great job through the first 5 innings, but then allowed a two-run homer in the 6th. Kyle Regnault took over for the 7th and added another scoreless inning to his total, but then struggled when he went back out for the 8th - 4 of the 5 batters he faced picked up singles, and the only out went for a sac fly. Akeel Morris would come in to finish the 8th, and he'd retire all 5 batters he faced. St. Lucie added 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th for some useful insurance, but Akeel generally doesn't need any. Conforto doubled in the frame, and then came home on another RBI hit from Dom Smith.

The Sand Gnats ended up on the wrong side of a back-and-forth battle with Hickory Tuesday afternoon, as James Duff couldn't get out of the 8th inning. The Gnats started the 2nd with 5 straight singles to jump out to a 3-0 lead, but Hickory would hit a solo blast in the bottom of the frame, and then a two-run bomb in the 3rd. Savannah would jump right back out on top in the 4th, as Tomas Nido singled, went to 3B on a Biondi double, and then came home on a sac fly from Guillorme. Hickory tied it up again in the 5th, and might have had more if not for a relay play to throw out a runner at home - Biondi-to-Guillorme-to-Nido. The Gnats would load the bases with nobody out in the 6th, but could only get one run out of the situation. Still, they handed a lead to their very good pen, which Hickory exploded on for 5 runs in the 8th. With one out in the inning, Savannah had Duff intentionally walk Kevin Torres to load the bases, putting a force at every base. Unfortunately, the next four batters would pick up hits off of Duff to make it a 9-5 game.

Minors MVP of the Day
– Eric Campbell reached base four times and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Rainy Lara has had a very strong season for Binghamton in his return to AA, and 5.2 shutout innings is always welcome.
