Recap
In
a game full of errors, the Harrisburg Senators took advantage of their extra
chances, while the B-Mets could not. Both teams committed four errors, but the
Senators pitchers were very sharp, allowing only the five hits. The Mets tied
things up with a two-run rally in the 4th inning, but Harrisburg
pulled away with 6 runs combined between the 5th and 6th
innings. Adam Kolarek had his scoreless streak snapped at 15+ innings when
Harrisburg pounced on him for 3 in the 6th. Julian Hilario continued
to struggle in his first taste of AA, allowing a run in the 8th.
The B-Mets defensive problems
started in the 1st inning behind Luis Cessa, when they failed to
turn two double play opportunities, committing a 2-run error on the second one
– you can’t assume a double play, so only one run is unearned. After a one out
single against Cessa in the 2nd, the Senators pitcher laid down a
sac bunt right in front of the plate. Xorge Carrillo had pounced on the ball
and had a play at 2B, but chose to just get the safe out at 1B. Instead of a
possible inning ending double play, Cessa had to face another batter who would
reach on an infield single. This time, Cessa didn’t get off the mound in time
to cover, although the poor replay angle appeared to show his foot getting in
first. There were two errors on a double steal attempt in the 5th,
leading to both runners scoring. The final error was a throwing error from
Dustin Lawley, but it didn’t lead to any more damage.
Check out more from this start
below. The B-Mets travel home to face Akron Friday night at 7:05 PM, with
Michael Fulmer scheduled to pitch.
Gavin
Cecchini led off the game with a single, but would be erased from the base
paths on a force out, and the B-Mets couldn’t get anything going.
Jayce
Boyd extended his hitting streak with a single in the 2nd, and the
B-Mets loaded the bases with nobody out, but they couldn’t break through for a
run.
After
David Cooper led off the 4th with a walk, Dustin Lawley doubled him
to 3B, and Xorge Carrillo brought them both home with a single lined into RF.
Pitcher Coverage
Again,
I felt like Luis Cessa pitched better than the results, but didn’t get any help
from his defense. He had some nice sequences, and got a lot of groundball
action, but he’ll need to get more swinging strikes moving forward. It seems
like there should be more than one unearned run charged his way, as four of
them scored on two plays that had a combined three errors. Hard to get on a
pitcher for struggling to finish the 5th when they were asked to get
so many outs before that.
