Recap

For the second straight night, the B-Mets would only register 5 hits against Portland pitching, but this time, the Portland bats broke out. The Sea Dogs would jump out to a 2-0 lead against starter Rainy Lara in the 2nd thanks to a two-out rally, which might have led to more if not for a great throw home from Brandon Nimmo (who was playing RF) that beat Blake Tekotte by 10+ feet for the third out. Nimmo had another good day at the plate, picking up the only two Bingo hits over the first 6 innings, including an RBI single in the 3rd (see below for both!).
Lara looked good over his first 3 starts of 2015, but struggled for a second straight start, dealing with at least one base runner in every inning. He nearly ended his start on a high note with a 1-2-3 5th, but Oscar Tejeda kept the inning alive with a single grounded into RF, and then Keury De La Cruz launched his third blast of the year.
Beck Wheeler was the first in to replace Lara, and he worked such a quick 6th inning that Pedro Lopez sent him back out there for the 7th. After striking out Mike Miller to start the frame, and getting to two outs with Carlos Asuaje on 1B, things imploded for Wheeler. Asuaje stole 2B, and then advanced to 3B on a throwing error. Tejeda brought him home with a double, and then scored himself when Wheeler unleashed two wild pitches facing Keury De La Cruz.
Carrillo would atone for his throwing error in the bottom of the 7th, when he lined an RBI double into LF, and then came home to score thanks to some good base running. Chase Huchingson and Jake Kuebler kept Portland scoreless over the final two frames, but the Binghamton bats couldn’t muster more than a single. Huchingson a very nice 1-2-3 8th, striking out the final two batters of the inning.
Gabriel Ynoa starts for Binghamton in the series finale, which is scheduled for Thursday at 6:35 PM.
