Mets Series in Review: vs. Brewers

Mets finally got some of what Eric Campbell's been having out in Las Vegas

Dates: May 16-19, 2015
Results: Win 2 out of 3
Current Record: 22-16, 0.5 Games ahead of Washington

MVMet: There are several options, because when the offense came, it was spread pretty evenly to all, but I’m giving it to the Soup whose arrival coincided with the huge outburst – “Waiter, I’ll have whatever Soup they’re having.”
LVMet: The ‘people who make decisions’ get this award for letting the Mets roll with a bench that’s been doing nothing all year. I’m generally a big fan of this front office, so this isn’t just me lashing out against Sandy again, because this bench has stunk so far, and the Mets might at least have better options in AAA. It’s not like the offensive bar has been set high: Ruben Tejada has a 57 wRC+, John Mayberry has a 23 wRC+, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis has a -26 wRC+ (!!!!).

After a less than stellar performance in Chicago, the bullpen was in shutdown mode back at home against Milwaukee. Glad to see that the public opinion of Erik Goeddel is changing, although I hope most people were just upset at the way Terry was using Goeddel, and not at the way he had had been pitching. It was reported that the Mets nearly brought up Chase Bradford last week, as he’s been the most consistent reliever for Las Vegas since his promotion in June of last year. If anyone stumbles or gets injured, Bradford should be a capable arm for the Mets to call up next (until Black, Parnell, or Blevins is healthy, or Mejia is done serving a suspension). But I think this unit can be successful, so long as Terry spreads the workload around – for example, Carlos Torres has been a successful pitcher, but everyone reaches a point of overuse, and Terry has consistently pushed Torres to that point. If you were watching this weekend, you saw the graphic that showed how much major league service time each member of this pen has, which demonstrates just how inexperienced the group is, but they’re here to play.
