Mets Series in Review: @Phillies

Brad Penner, USA Today sports

Dates: May 8-10
Results: W 2/3
Current Record: 20-11, 3.5 Games ahead of Washington

MVMet: Ruben Tejada doesn’t get much love among Mets fans, but he contributed nicely during both wins. Fans of other teams must think those Mets fans who hate on Ruben are crazy, as he’s had an 89 wRC+ in 450 PA since the beginning of 2014, while providing average defense up the middle, and switching between the bench and a starter’s role.
LVMet: It has to be tough starting maybe once a week and pinch hitting against bullpen specialists all of the time, but John Mayberry and Kirk Nieuwenhuis have really struggled in that role for the Mets so far.

Erik Goeddel had his first blemish of the season, and Alex Torres got a little wild, but the bullpen held it together once again.
