Miller Diaz worked his way in and out of trouble against Palm
Beach, until he couldn’t get out of the 6th, and the Cardinals
surged ahead 2-0. Diaz had allowed multiple base runners in 4 of the first 5
innings, but kept making the big pitch when he needed it, until the 6th.
After the first two batters reached on a walk and single, they were sac bunted
over to 2B and 3B, and then scored on a Carson Kelly single. Kyle Regnault
would bailed Diaz out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts, preventing
further damage, but one run would’ve been enough against the Mets Tuesday
night. St. Lucie had a few chances, but most of them came about with two outs
in the inning. They did have one golden opportunity to take the lead in the 4th,
as they loaded the bases with nobody out, but then Glenn struck out, followed
by groundouts from Stuart and McNeil. Looking at the bright side, Dominic Smith had his fifth double since 5/12, Michael Conforto added a pair of hits, and Kyle Regnault continues to look like a great Indy-league pickup - throws low 90's heat from the left side with a curve.

Corey Oswalt was having one of his best SAL outings against
Augusta Tuesday night, but then the rains came with two outs in the bottom of
the 4th, and these two teams would have to wait 2 hours and 25
minutes to resume play. Even though there were two new pitchers out there when
play resumed, the pitchers duel would continue until the 7th, when
Savannah broke through and took a 3-run lead. Eudor Garcia led off with his 5th
double of the year on a line drive to RF. He’d advance to 3B on a single from
Tomas Nido, and then a Lupo walk would load the bases. Garcia came home on a
groundout from Biondi that followed, but Augusta was able to turn two on the
play. Savannah would pick up their second run of the inning when Luis Guillorme
reached on a throwing error to keep the inning going. Guillorme then stole 2B
and came home to score on a J.C. Rodriguez RBI single. Eudor would pick up his
third hit of the game in the 8th to knock in John Mora from 2B –
Mora had led off with a single.
Minors MVP of the Day
– Gavin Cecchini picked up two extra base hits, including his third homerun of the year, so he edges Eudor Garcia for the daily award, but great stuff from Eudor too!
Minors Cy of the Day
– Duane Below did something that people have nicknamed 'The Maddux' (CG SO with less than 100 pitches), when that happens, you win Cy of the Day.
