Recap
The
Binghamton Mets had a team cycle Sunday evening, but unfortunately they had no
other hits, and Akron rode a big 5th inning to a 4-2 victory. The
early surprise of 2015, Seth Lugo, had allowed only one walk in each of his
last 5 starts (and 0 in his first start), but then walked two of three batters
in the 5th inning, throwing two wild pitches along the way. That
stretch came after he allowed the first two batters of the 5th to
hit a bomb and then a double, and Akron would string together three runs total
in the inning. Bobby Parnell took over for Lugo in the 7th (more
specifics below), pitching at NYSEG stadium for the first time since 2008, and
worked around a one-out double, with one strikeout in the inning – he topped
out at 94 MPH. The final 11 B-Mets batters were retired in a row, as the Akron
bullpen was perfect in relief of Mike Clevinger.
Check out more from this game below. The
series wraps up Monday afternoon at 1 PM, with Rainy Lara scheduled to pitch
for Binghamton, and the B-Mets looking to win the 4-game set.
Josh
Rodriguez hit his 8th homerun of the season with one out in the 1st,
tying the game at 1. Jayce Boyd followed with a single, but David Cooper ended
the frame with a GIDP.
Eudy
Pina hit a two out triple into the left center field gap in the 5th,
but he’d be stranded there.
Gilbert
Gomez led off the 6th with a double, and then came home on a wild
pitch, which is how the 9th inning of their walkoff Saturday went.
