St. Lucie’s offense has been getting hot all at once lately, and they continued that with a 7-run, 15-hit outburst Sunday against Dunedin. After allowing a leadoff single in the 1st, Mets starter Robert Gsellman retired 18 of the next 20, working on a 3-hitter as he entered in the 7th, and reportedly hitting 95 MPH on the stadium gun. The bats put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the 2nd and 3rd innings, jumping out to a commanding 6-0 lead. In the 2nd, Smith, De La Cruz, Rosario, and Plaia hit consecutive singles, and then Rosario came home on a force out. In the 3rd, the rally started with a two out single from Matt Oberste, and was aided by two walks (one with the bases loaded) and a fielding error at 3B. Plaia came through with a bases loaded two run single in both innings, continuing a strong year at the plate in his first taste of the FSL. Plaia would come up with runners on the corners and nobody out in the 5th, but he’d ground into a double play, which did extend the lead to 7-0. The Jays finally broke through against Gsellman in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 3 runs on 5 singles. The Jays made it a 3-run game in the 8th on the back of two singles and a wild pitch, but Akeel Morris came out of the Mets pen for the 9th, and he is not about to blow a 3-run lead.

Today: L 5-1, Reyes (L, 3-4, 3.62 ERA) – 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 SO, HBP, 92 Pitches (57 Strikes), 10 GO: 5 FO

Minors MVP of the DayColton Plaia has been having a very nice season at the plate for St. Lucie, and his three hit, four RBI day brought him up to a .302/.342/.434 slash with 22 RBI’s, t-14th in the FSL.

Minors Cy of the DayRobert Gsellman tossed another strong start in the FSL, reportedly topping out at 95 MPH per the stadium gun. Can’t wait to watch him with Binghamton in the 2nd half.
