St. Lucie won a tight back-and-forth affair in their opener against Bradenton, bailing out starter Rob Whalen, who had his shortest outing of the year, while allowing a season high in runs. Champ Stuart got the scoring started in the top of the first when he led off with a double, and then advanced twice on consecutive groundouts. Whalen walked the first two batters he’d face, starting a bad trend for the game, as he’d set a pro career high with 5 walks – his previous high was 4, which he had done twice in 2013. He caught a break when Dom Smith turned a line drive into an unassisted double play, but Erich Weiss still made him pay for the first walk when he followed with a single into CF. Weiss would steal 2B and then score on another single into CF. Dom Smith got the Mets comeback started in the 2nd with a leadoff double. They’d load the bases twice in the inning, but could only scratch out one run, leaving things tied at 2. Bradenton put their second crooked number on the scoreboard in the 3rd, combining two doubles and a walk for two runs. Whalen would work around a one out double in the 4th, and then his night was done. In the 5th, St. Lucie took control of the game by putting up a 5-spot. With Evans on 1B and one out, 4-straight Mets reached, capped by Smith’s second double of the game, and 17th double in 21 games (!!!!!). After a Marauder pitching change, Sabol doubled home Oberste and Smith, which turned out to be huge in this game. Villasmil made his season debut in the bottom of the 5th and issued a leadoff walk to Harold Ramirez. Ramirez would steal 2B, head to 3B on a wild pitch, and then score on a sac fly from the next batter, Jin-De Jhang. Bradenton would cut the lead to 1 with a run in the 7th thanks to a pair of doubles against Secrest. Akeel Morris took over in the 8th and was perfect over his 2-inning save. Morris has gone 9-9 on save opportunities, and 6 of those saves have required him to throw more than 1 inning (five 2-inning save, one lasted 1.2 IP).

Casey Meisner (4-1, 2.02 ERA) @ Carlos Polanco (2-6, 5.32 ERA)
@Asheville (22-29) at 7:05 PM
Today: W 4-1, Meisner (W, 5-1, 1.88 ERA) – 8.1 IP, 8 H, R, 2 BB, 3 SO, HBP, 90 Pitches (60 Strikes), 7 GO: 6 FO
Lineup
2B – Jonathan Johnson – 0-4, 2 SO
SS – Luis Guillorme – 1-4, SO
DH – Jean Rodriguez – 0-4, 2 SO
3B – Eudor Garcia – 0-4, 3 SO
RF – Wuilmer Becerra – 3-4, 2 R, 2 2B (13), HR (6), RBI (24)
CF – John Mora – 1-4, SO, CS
1B – Jon Leroux – 2-3, R, RBI (20), SO
C – Tomas Nido – 0-3, SO
LF – Vicente Lupo – 2-3, R, HR (2), 2 RBI (9), SO
Bullpen:
David Roseboom (S, 4, 1.46 ERA) – 0.2 IP, SO, 1 GO: 1 IR – 0 S

The top-2 Mets prospects with Savannah led the team to a 4-1 win over Asheville Tuesday night to stop a 2-game skid. Wuilmer Becerra had himself quite a day at the plate, hitting a double with one out in the 2nd, a double leading of the 5th, and a homerun leading off the 7th – shame that nobody was on base in front of him all night. Meanwhile, Casey Meisner was in charge on the mound, taking a shutout into the 9th before departing after the Tourists finally scratched out a run. The game was scoreless into the 5th, when Becerra got the Gnats first rally going. Jon Leroux would single Becerra home, and then Lupo made it a 3-0 game with a 2-run blast to left. Savannah threatened to add more in the 7th, but Jon Leroux would be thrown out on a play scored 5-3-2 – Lupo is credited with an infield single on a groundball to the third baseman, but Leroux was trying to score from 2B, per the game log. In the 8th, Jonathan Johnson was called out on strikes, and then ejected by the home plate ump (likely for arguing strikes), which meant that Casey Meisner entered the lineup in the leadoff spot. If 3 more Gnats had reached in the frame, Meisner would’ve been due up, although who knows if they would’ve let him hit. In the 9th, Meisner allowed a leadoff single, and then Josh Fuentes doubled home the Tourists first run. He’d retire the third batter of the inning, but Jose Leger chose to bring in the BOOM for the tough lefties due up.

Minors MVP of the Day – Wuilmer Beccera had a huge game for Savannah, and has been really hot the past week.
Minors Cy of the DayCasey Meisner finished two outs shy of a complete game, and entered the
9th with a shutout going and less than 90 pitches thrown. #PROMOAT
