Recapish

Coming off of his worst outing of the year – a rain-suspended three-inning stint – Corey Oswalt was back to his previous form Saturday night in Bowie, but the Rumble Ponies offense couldn’t back him with any run support. Binghamton connected for 13 hits in the game, but they were held to just one run until Cody Decker homered with two outs in the 9th.
Kevin Taylor and Decker both finished with three hits, but unfortunately for Binghamton, Champ Stuart and Luis Guillorme combined to go 0-10 before them – a rare night for neither to reach base. Taylor’s first hit came with two outs in the 1st.

The Ponies strung together three straight hits with two outs in the 2nd, but then Stuart ended the threat with a strikeout. L.J. Mazzilli, Jiovanni Mier, and Colton Plaia singled in the frame.

Plaia

Cody Decker’s first hit of the game came in the 3rd, and it advanced Taylor (walk) to second base with just one out, but Binghamton would strand runners on the corners in this frame.
Oswalt faced the minimum over the first two innings, but the Baysox first hit against him put runners on the corners with just one out in the 3rd. He responded by striking out Jay Gonzalez before inducing a groundout to end the frame, one of eleven groundouts against Bowie hit into against Oswalt during the game.

Plaia’s second hit of the game came in the 4th inning, putting runners on the corners with one out. Binghamton had to trade an out for their first run, but Champ Stuart’s groundout did give them a 1-0 lead at the time.

Garabez Rosa doubled against Oswalt in Bowie’s 4th, but he was stranded at third base. Oswalt ended the frame by freezing Erick Salcedo for his second strikeout. David Thompson helped Oswalt record a pair of groundouts during the 4th and 5th innings.

Decker’s second hit of the game came in the 5th, but he was stranded at first. Taylor’s second hit came in the 7th and he was caught trying to steal second to end that frame.

Taylor

The Baysox finally got to Oswalt thanks to a two out rally in the 5th. Sharlon Schoop kept the inning alive with a single to LF, and then scored when Gonzalez doubled to CF. A HBP and walk loaded the bases for Rosa, but he would just add another groundout to Oswalt’s total. Aderlin Rodriguez gave Bowie their first lead in the 6th, leading off the inning with a long homer to left center field.
Cory Burns took over for Oswalt in the 7th, and his outing started well but went downhill quickly. Burns struck out Schoop to start the frame, but the next five Bowie batters reached as the Baysox extended their lead to 4-1.

Heads up play from Champ Stuart

Kevin Kaczmarski and Mier singled in the 8th, but the Ponies would strand runners on the corners in the frame.

Kacz

Luis Mateo took over for Burns in the 8th and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning. The Rumble Ponies had one last burst in them in the 9th, but it proved too little to late. Taylor kept the game alive with his third single and then Decker made things interesting with a two run homer to left center. Unfortunately, his homer only made it 4-3, and there were already two outs in the 9th. Kaczmarski kept the inning alive again with a single, but that’s all the rally magic the Binghamton bats had in them.

With this series in the balance, Binghamton looks for their sixth straight rubber match victory Sunday afternoon in Bowie. Casey Delgado is expected to make the 2:05 PM scheduled start for Binghamton opposite John Means.
