Recapish
After
rainouts ruined their weekend and a scheduled off day Monday, these Rumble
Ponies were ready to go out of the gates Tuesday night, led by starter Casey
Delgado. Delgado turned in his best performance of the year, protecting the
tight 2-0 lead for the first five innings before the Bingo bats broke this game
open. Kevin Taylor (double and homer) had the biggest night at the plate for
the Ponies, but he was one of five Bingo batters to finish with multiple hits,
with David Thompson and Colton Plaia also adding doubles to their totals.
The
Rumble Ponies didn’t waste time giving Delgado a lead, scoring two runs in the
bottom of the 1st. With Champ Stuart resting, Manager Luis Rojas
went with three straight lefties at the top of the lineup, which is a little
unusual, but clearly worked. Luis Guillorme led off the 1st with a
single, but was quickly replaced on the base paths after a force out. Kevin
Taylor followed with a walk, and then Matt Oberste and David Thompson connected
for back-to-back RBI singles.
Delgado
hit the leadoff batter in the 2nd, but a 4-6-3 double play erased
the base runner and allowed for another quick frame. He struck out two during a
quick 3rd inning, but had to work around a walk in the 4th
and a pair of singles in the 5th.
Patrick Biondi sparked the biggest rally
of the game with a leadoff walk in the 5th. Colton Plaia followed
with an RBI double to make it 3-0. After a pair of groundouts, Kacz kept the
inning going with an RBI single into LF, and then Taylor capped the scoring
with a long homer to RF.
Kevin
Kramer tripled and scored for Altoona in the 6th, making it a 6-1
game. Delgado finished the frame with a pitch count of 93, but the Ponies
looked to get another inning out of him after he needed just eleven pitches in
the 6th.
David
Thompson led off the Ponies half of the 6th with his fifth double of
the year. He went to third base on a Gustavo Nunez single, but was thrown out
trying to score on a grounder. Nunes eventually came home on a force out.
Corey
Taylor took over for Delgado with one out and a runner at first base in the 7th.
Taylor would walk a runner in the 7th, but escaped the jam without
allowing the inherited runner to score.
Guillorme
again led off the inning with a single in the 7th, and again was
quickly replaced by Kacz on the base paths after a force out. Kacz would go to
third base on Taylor’s fifth double of the year, and then scored on Oberste’s
second RBI hit of the night.
Taylor
allowed a pair of two out hits in the 8th (double then single),
which allowed the Curve to make it an 8-2 game, momentarily.
Binghamton
bounced right back in their half of the 8th, scoring a pair of runs
despite just one hit in the frame – a Colton Plaia single. Kaczmarski worked a
bases loaded walk and then Plaia came home on an RBI groundout for Taylor.
Tim
Peterson hadn’t pitched since 5/8 with Las Vegas, so Manager Luis Rojas was
sure to get him in there for the 9th, even though the team had a
huge 10-2 lead. Peterson didn’t disappoint, working a perfect frame and
finishing the game with a strikeout of Jerrick Suiter.
These
two teams continue this series Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Mickey Jannis
(3-1, 3.74 ERA) scheduled to make the start for Binghamton opposite Austin
Coley (1-1, 2.76 ERA).
