Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies made it six straight rubber match victories Sunday afternoon in Bowie, improving to seven games above the break-even mark with a 6-2 win. Starter Casey Delgado was effective over his five innings of work, and then the Binghamton bullpen faced just one over the minimum during four scoreless innings of relief. Cody Decker’s 8th inning homer gave Binghamton a comfortable four run lead, but the Ponies had opportunities all night thanks to contributions from nearly everyone.
Binghamton jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Jio Mier double in the 2nd. Decker led off the frame with his first of three hits in the game, but Kevin Taylor followed with his first of two double play grounders. Matt Oberste kept the inning alive with a two out walk and moved into scoring position on Kevin Kaczmarski’s first hit of the day, which set up the Mier double.

The Baysox got those runs back in the 3rd when Sharlon Schoop tripled home a run and scored when Luis Guillorme made a throwing error during the play.
Decker and Taylor pulled the single then double play trick again in the 4th, but there would be no two out magic from Binghamton this time.

The Rumble Ponies pulled back ahead with two in the 6th. L.J. Mazzilli sparked the rally with a double to RF and then scored on a Luis Guillorme bunt single -> throwing error. Guillorme went to second on a throwing error and then third on a wild pitch, which set up an easy RBI chance for Tomas Nido, who singled him home. Matt Oberste singled Nido to third three batters later, but the Ponies rally had just two runs in it.

Corey Taylor took over for Delgado in the 6th and stayed on for two innings. He allowed a leadoff single to D.J. Stewart in his first inning of relief, but Stewart was quickly erased on a double play. Taylor finished his night with a perfect 7th, which was highlighted by his strikeout of Tucker Nathans to end the frame.

Guillorme’s second hit of the day gave Binghamton a base runner when Decker went deep to LF. It was the second straight three hit game for Decker, and second straight game he hit a two run homer in his final at bat. Kevin Kaczmarski and Mier added singles in the 9th, but then the next three Ponies batters went down without so much as advancing them a base.

Kyle Regnault and Tim Peterson combined to work the last two innings out of Binghamton’s pen – Regnault was removed after allowing a leadoff single in the 9th. Both have been dominant for Binghamton out of the pen, and both continued that by retiring the first three batters they saw Sunday.
With another series win in the books, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies take their road trip to Richmond. No Binghamton starter had been announced as of this posting, but the series opener starts Monday night at 6:35 PM, and Richmond should offer good coverage of whoever pitches for the Ponies.

Defensive Highlights

Some impressive plays from Luis Guillorme, L.J. Mazzilli and Tomas Nido.
