Another Undrafted College Pitcher Makes a Successful Pro Debut in the Mets System

Image from the original announcement

Signed after the draft, Faulkner’s closer Alejandro Castro threw a scoreless inning for the GCL Mets in his pro debut.

As is often the case with undrafted free agents, the Mets signing of 22-year old Alejandro Castro went mostlyunreported, but is it possible they found another diamond in the rough? Per the Faulkner school site, Alejandro Castro was the school’s closer this past year, and he went 3-2, with 11 saves and a 1.60 ERA. His bio page is a little light, but his stat page shows that he finished with 27 K: 9 BB and a .221 average allowed over 39.1 IP (28 G). It looks like he helped his team to a #2 ranking in the NAIA World Series, but Faulkner would be eliminated one round shy of the finals.
His pro debut went well, as he threw a scoreless inning, allowing a hit, but picking up a strikeout. It’s unfortunate that there are few reports from the GCL, and even less video available, but below is some video of Castro throwing during a side session.

As with any undrafted college free agent, it’s unlikely someone who had just slipped through 40 rounds of draft picks is going to be that interesting, and these lower levels should be cake for them. If you want a positive spin, the Mets have proven to be good at developing pitchers, and side-arming relievers have a chance to at least be good against same-sided batters. Realistically, we won’t know if he can be useful until he’s doing it in at least AA.

Let’s assume 90% of all websites using JavaScript use it in a trivial way. That still leaves 150 million substantial JavaScript Training in Chennai JavaScript applications.
