Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets finished their series with the Trenton Thunder on a high note,
walking off with a win in the 12th inning thanks to Xorge Carrillo.
Carrillo provided the heroics, but starter Tyler Pill did most of the legwork,
holding a talented Thunder team to just 2 runs on 3 hits over nearly 8 innings
of work.
Pill
allowed a solo blast to Dustin Fowler in the 1st inning and then
went to work. He retired the next 11 Thunder batters in a row before issuing a
leadoff walk in the 5th inning. His only walk of the night would
come back to burn him however, as Lane Adams came around on a groundout 3
batters later to make it a 2-0 Trenton lead. Pill then retired 8 straight as
his teammates tied the game up, but would removed with two outs and a runner on
3B in the 8th.
David
Roseboom was brought into the tight spot and struck out Tyler Wade to finish
the frame. Per Tim
Heiman, Roseboom hasn’t allowed an inherited runner to score in over a
year! After the BOOM, Beck Wheeler, Alberto Baldonado, and Tim Peterson
combined keep Trenton off the scoreboard for the last 4 innings of the game,
giving the B-Mets a chance for a walkoff win with each scoreless frame.
The
B-Mets finally broke through for that walkoff in the 12th, which I break
down with highlights below, so enjoy! With this series done, the B-Mets welcome
the talented Hartford Yard Goats into town for the weekend. Rainy Lara (3-6,
4.78 ERA) is scheduled to start in the opener at 7:05 PM Friday night, and he’ll
be looking to build on one of the best Double-A starts of his career.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Derrik
Gibson and Phillip Evans led off the 7th inning with singles and
both eventually came around to score and tie the game. Gibson came home on a
sac fly from Dominic Smith, and then Phillip Evans came home on a wild pitch
with two outs. Smith had a single in the game
Victor
Cruzado worked a walk leading off the 12th inning and then went to
3B on Matt Oberste’s first hit of the game. The Thunder would intentionally
walk L.J. Mazzilli to put a force on every base, loading the bases with no outs
in the process. Xorge Carrillo made them pay with a walkoff single for the win!
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Matt
Oberste with a nice pick at 1B after this play from Phillip Evans in the 3rd.
