Recapish
The
B-Mets failed to capitalize on their early chances against Hartford Sunday
afternoon, and the Yard Goats pen wouldn’t give them any late, so their brooms
went unused as they dropped the finale 5-1. Although they lost the finale, the
B-Mets should be happy with taking 2/3 from one of the top teams in the EL.
It
wasn’t easy for Casey Delgado on Sunday, but he gutted out a quality start over
his 6 innings. He had allowed a pair of hits, including a double, in the 1st,
a triple in the 2nd, and two walks in the 3rd, but
escaped each jam and found himself ahead 1-0 after 3. Unfortunately, you can
only play with fire so long before you get burned, and the Yard Goats would
break through for 3 runs scored with two outs over the next two frames. Michael
Benjamin provided a 2 RBI single in the 4th and Ryan McMahon brought
home the third run against Delgado with a single in the 5th.
The
B-Mets had all of their best chances in the first 3 innings, but they couldn’t
scratch out 1 run on 5 hits and a walk during that time. Delgado took the walk
on a 3-2 count to leadoff the 3rd inning and eventually came around
to score the B-Mets only run of the game.
With
this series over, the B-Mets are now just 7 games under .500 as they head to
Richmond to face the 24-39 Flying Squirrels. The B-Mets are off Monday and then
have Mickey Jannis (1-5, 5.13 ERA) scheduled to start the series opener, which
is set for Tuesday at 6:35 PM.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Phillip
Evans and Matt Oberste singled in the 1st but the B-Mets couldn’t
get either home. Oberste was thrown out at 2B on his hit, which ended the
frame.
L.J.
Mazzilli hit his 7th double of the season in the 2nd
inning.
Casey
Delgado worked a walk leading off the 3rd inning and eventually came
around to score. He went to 2B on Evans second hit of the night and then came
home Oberste’s 15th double of the season.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
This
play from Niuman Romero at 3B is pretty awesome. He makes the diving stop and
is able to propel his body forward just enough for the tag, and then he got up
and got the throw to 1B just a moment too late.
