Recapish

The Fireflies were blown out Friday night to fall to 0-2 in the second half. The Green Jackets used two huge scoring outbursts to take a commanding lead in this game, and their bats have come out of the All-Star break red-hot.
There’s really little for me to add to this section considering the blowout. The Green Jackets scored their 7 runs in the 2nd on 5 hits, including two doubles, a three-run homer, and a grand slam. Ingram had allowed just 3 homers all season before giving up 2 Friday in a four batter span. He never really settled in, though his manager left him out there to work through his problems over 90 pitches. We’ll see what happens, but I think that’s a good sign he wasn’t doing anything to suggest an underlying injury could have been the problem.
Back-to-back fielding errors in the 8th opened the door for Augusta to turn this game into an absolute laugher. They were merciless as they opened up a 19-2 lead in the 8th inning.
The Fireflies did do a few nice things on offense, which I break down with highlights below. This series continues Saturday night at 7:05 PM when the Fireflies turn to Kevin Canelon (4-4, 3.09 ERA) to get them in the 2nd half win column.

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights

Patrick Mazeika hit his first homer of the season with two outs in the 2nd to get the Fireflies on the board, but the game was long gone by then.

J.C. Rodriguez (3rd), Jeffrey Diehl (4th), Mazeika (5th), and Kevin Kaczmarski (6th) each singled with less than two outs over the next four frames, but the Fireflies would do nothing else in any of the innings.

Ivan Wilson led off the 8th with a single, which started a Fireflies rally. Vicente Lupo had entered the game in the 7th inning, and he would double Wilson home in his first AB. Luis Ortega followed with a two run single and Joe Tuschak added an RBI double, but that was barely a dent in Augusta’s lead.

Lupo made it 2-2 when he tripled home Wilson in the 9th inning. Not sure if he was injured or just in extended, but good to see the big guy back and making contact.
