Recapish
The
Columbia Fireflies dropped their second straight at home Friday night, losing
6-2 to the visiting Hagerstown Suns. The Suns have used a patient approach to
wait out Columbia’s starters the past two days, which has led to a pair of big
early leads for the visitors.
Ingram
worked a quick 1st inning, but things got progressively worse over
the next 2+ frames. He finished having allowed 1 single to every Hagerstown
batters, 5 of which came on groundballs, and 3 walks issued. A walk started the
Suns rally in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, with both baserunners
coming around to score. Ingram would be removed with a runner on 2B and one out
in the 4th.
Seth
Davis took over for Ingram and had a great outing over nearly 4 innings. He
finished with 7 K’s and a ridiculous 51.7% Whiff/Swing rate while limiting
Hagerstown to just 3 baserunners. Craig Missigman kept the strong relief-pitching
going over the final 2 innings, and he was a strike-throwing machine out there.
Thanks
to a great effort from the pen, Columbia had the chance to come back in this
one, but the offense really couldn’t get anything going. Kevin Kaczmarski
reached in his first 2 AB’s, but no other Fireflies batter had a hit until J.C.
Rodriguez’s infield single in the 7th. That hit opened the door for
their only rally, which was capped by a Milton Ramos RBI single into LF.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights below, and include some positive
Chase Ingram highlights at the bottom, so enjoy! This series wraps up Saturday
night at 7:05 PM, with P.J. Conlon (7-1, 1.42 ERA) scheduled to start for
Columbia.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Kevin
Kaczmarski started his night 2-2, singling through the right side in the 1st
and doubling to LF in the 4th.
The
Fireflies finally broke through in the 7th, scoring a pair of runs
on 3 hits. J.C. Rodriguez sparked the rally with a leadoff single, went to 3B
on David Thompson’s 16th double of the year, and then scored on a
Pat Mazeika groundout. Milton Ramos added a two out RBI single in the frame.
Thompson:
Ivan
Wilson led off the 8th with his 12th double of the year –
he has three in the last two games!
