Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets fell back to 10 games under .500 Saturday night, blowing a late
comeback bid and taking a walkoff loss in Trenton. On a night when the Mets
A-ball affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones were held hitless over 10 innings, the
B-Mets were limited to just 1 hit over the first 7 innings before ‘coming
alive’ in the 8th.
Kevin
McGowan made the spot start for Binghamton and gave them 2 scoreless frames
before running into trouble to start the 3rd inning. The first 4
Thunder batters had hits off him in the 3rd, which is how the
Thunder built up an early 2-0 lead. Logan Taylor took over in the 4th
and cruised through his 4 innings, which gave his teammates plenty of chances
to come back.
Binghamton
finally broke through as soon as starter Dietrich Enns was removed, but it was
not without help from the Thunder. Coshow walked Gibson with two outs and then
the Thunder committed an error on each of the next two plays, which led to all
3 Binghamton runs.
The
usually reliable Luis Mateo took over for the bottom of the 8th and
quickly gave that lead back. Speedy Lane Adams hit a leadoff double against
him, stole 3B (his 19th stolen base of the season) and eventually
came around to score on a sac fly.
The
B-Mets got the go ahead run to 2B in the 9th inning, but Stefan
Sabol was picked off at 1B to end the threat. Mateo then stayed out for the
Thunder half of the frame and quickly got in trouble by issuing a leadoff walk.
Trenton loaded the bases against him with one out in the inning, and then Tyler
Wade came home to score the winning on a sac fly.
I
break down the scoring details and highlights below, so enjoy! This series wraps
up Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM, with Mickey Jannis scheduled to take the ball
for Binghamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
B-Mets didn’t have a hit off Dietrich Enns until Colton Plaia doubled with one
out in the 5th inning.
Maikis
De La Cruz kept the 8th inning alive with a two out single off of
Cale Coshow. After Derrik Gibson walked, an E8 allowed both runners to come
home. Phillip Evans hit a fly ball to medium depth CF and the center fielder
just dropped the ball. Kyle Johnson then reached on an infield single, with Phillip
Evans coming home to give Binghamton a 3-2 lead on the play.

Kevin McGowan is sitting 88-92 with an 82-85 mph breaking ball, kind of slurvey from my view. Also an 80 mph change pic.twitter.com/FLkYaSHXjj— Timothy Finnegan (@TimFinn521) June 18, 2016
