Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets began their road trip with a win over Altoona Monday night to
make it 4 straight wins and back to 10 games under .500. Although they’d win
the game, the B-Mets may have suffered a loss too, as Rainy Lara had to leave
mid-AB with an apparent injury.
This
game was dominated by pitching, as Clay Holmes and Rainy Lara were locked in a
duel before Lara left in the 5th. The B-Mets had Holmes on the ropes
in the 2nd inning, but Rainy Lara came up in the biggest spot of the
frame. Manager Pedro Lopez had Lara lay down a sac bunt to move two runners
into scoring position, but L.J. Mazzilli couldn’t come through with the two out
RBI hit. After that, Holmes retired 14 straight before the Curve pen took over
in the 7th.
Lara
retired the first ten Curve batters of the game in order before Erich Weiss
singled in the 4th. Altoona was able to get Weiss around on a two
out hit from Reese McGuire, and the 1-1 tie stayed until the 6th.
Not sure what happened to Lara yet during the 5th inning, but never
good when the pitcher stops the action.
Altoona
was able to scratch out a run on two singles and a stolen base against Kevin
McGowan in the 6th. That lead held up until the 8th, when
Amed Rosario came through with a 2R triple to deep CF that turned this game
around – see below. Tim Peterson and Beck Wheeler would combine to finish the
game with two scoreless to hold on for the tight 3-2 win.
I
break down the B-Mets scoring details and have included some defense and
strikeout highlights below, so enjoy! This series continues Tuesday night at
7:00 PM, with Josh Zeid scheduled to start for Binghamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Jayce
Boyd started the 2nd inning with a single and came around to score on
a throwing error from the second baseman. Maikis De La Cruz picked up his first
of two hits in the frame.
The
B-Mets didn’t record another hit until L.J. Mazzilli singled with two outs in
the 8th. After Phillip Evans kept the inning alive with a walk, Amed
Rosario tripled them both home to completely change the outlook of this game.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Phil
Evans was at 3B and had to make a long throw on this play down the line – what
is going on with the umpire??
Pitcher Coverage
Rainy Lara
Here’s
the last pitch from Lara before he left.
Kevin McGowan
McGowan
took over mid-AB in the 5th and struck out Clay Holmes to end the
inning.
After
allowing a run in the 6th, McGowan came out and worked around an E6
in the 7th. He started the frame with a strikeout of Edwin Espinal
and finished it with a strikeout of Miguel Rosario.
Tim Peterson
Peterson
struck out Harold Ramirez during a scoreless 8th.
Beck Wheeler
Wheeler
alternated walking and striking out the first 4 batters of the 9th.
He set down Espinal swinging on a wild pitch and then Barrett Barnes swinging
with runners on the corners.
