Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets continued their struggles against the EL’s worst team Tuesday
night, as they took an 8-1 loss to open a 3-game set in Richmond. The B-Mets
have now lost 4 straight to the Flying Squirrels, a team that is already 17
games under .500 against the rest of the league.
It
was a familiar story for Binghamton starter Mickey Jannis in this one, as he
fell behind early after struggling with control out of the gate. He actually
got to two outs quickly in the 1st, but the next 5 reached, which
was capped by an Ali Castillo two run single. The frame was a disaster for
Jannis, as he allowed the Flying Squirrels to score 4 runs on just 2 hits when
there were no errors in the frame. There was a passed ball, but more
importantly, Jannis issued 3 walks (all 3 came around to score) and hit a
batter his first time through the order. He mostly settled down after that
until running into two out trouble in the 5th.
On
the other side of the ball, Dan Slania was making quick work of the B-Mets.
Binghamton finally put together a threat when the first two reached in the 6th,
but Slania made quick work of the next two batters before Jake Smith was called
on to finish the frame. Binghamton finally did break through in the 7th,
but they only managed one run after loading the bases with nobody out.
The
B-Mets relief put together a ridiculous stretch after taking over in the 6th.
Kevin McGowan was the first out of the pen, and he would strikeout the final 5
Squirrels to face him. Logan Taylor was next up and he started his outing with
a pair of K’s to make it 7 straight.
I
break down the scoring and reliever strikeouts with highlights below, so enjoy!
This series continues Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Tyler Pill (3-6, 4.22
ERA) scheduled to pitch for Binghamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Phillip
Evans and Jayce Boyd started the 6th inning with singles, but the
B-Mets stranded both in scoring position during the frame. Evans finished with 3 hits (2 shown here, 1 below) and Colton Plaia added a single too.
The
first 3 B-Mets of the 7th reached via the walk to give Binghamton a
golden opportunity to come back in this game. Unfortunately Richmond was quick
to make a pitching change, and then Binghamton only scratched out one run
against Preston Claiborne.

Dominic

The
CF camera appears to have a low frame rate or something, and the stream was
jumping at times when they used that angle – you’ll see what I mean in the
GIF’s below. Because of this, the Jannis K’s weren’t worth sharing, and most of
the ones below are still not as smooth as I’d like.
Kevin McGowan
McGowan
got a groundout from the first batter he faced out of the pen, walked the next
one, and then K’d the next 5.
Logan Taylor
Taylor
struck out the first two of the 8th inning, but then a walk opened
the door for two more Richmond runs thanks to back-to-back doubles from Ryder
Jones and Ricky Oropesa.
