Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets held on for a 7-6 win to snap two losing streaks Friday night.
The B-Mets won for the first time since last Thursday in Richmond, and starter
Mickey Jannis won for the first time since 4/14, which was his first start of
the year.
Although
everything worked out for Binghamton in this one, it looked grim early on.
Jannis allowed three straight two out singles in the 1st as the
Squirrels built a 3-0 lead, but he was a different pitcher after his teammates
got him that lead back. The B-Mets were patient against Richmond’s starter Kyle
Crick in their half of the 1st inning, which led to a bases loaded
walk and Crick’s very early departure. Stefan Sabol delivered the final blow
against Crick, taking him to the wall for a bases clearing double and 4-3
Binghamton lead.
After
being handed a lead, Jannis allowed no hits and only the one walk over his
final 5 frames. He also worked around some B-Mets miscues made behind him as
his teammates extended the lead to 6-3.
Those
next two runs were driven in by top Mets prospects Dominic Smith (homer) and
Amed Rosario (RBI double), and you can check out those highlights below!
The score stayed that way until Alberto
Baldonado came in for the 8th and allowed a leadoff homer to Tyler
Horan. Richmond would make things interesting over the final two frames, but
Beck Wheeler did just enough to keep the lead intact. He finished the game with
three strikeouts in the 9th, and momentarily let himself get a
little overexcited after the final out was recorded.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights below, so enjoy! This series
continues Saturday evening at 7:05 PM, with Casey Delgado (4-3, 4.31 ERA)
scheduled to make the start for Binghamton.
"WOOOO!! AWW...wait, take it back Beck! ...let me just adjust the hat... all good, no one saw that anyway..." |
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Derrik
Gibson led off the 1st inning with a single, although he’d be
replaced on the base paths by Amed Rosario two batters later. Rosario then came
around to score on 3 straight walks issued, which left the bases loaded for
Stefan Sabol. Sabol just missed a grand slam, settling for a huge bases
clearing double instead. It was his seventh double of the season.
Dominic
Smith hit a towering solo blast to LF leading off the 3rd inning,
his fifth of the season. Xorge Carrillo reached base in all 4 PA’s Friday
night, but his only hit came in the 3rd.
With
two outs and Gibson on 3B, Amed Rosario lined an RBI double into nearly the
same location he hit Thursday’s pinch-hit double.
After
struggling against sidearming Tyler Rogers for two innings, the B-Mets had to
deal with hard-throwing Ray Black, but control issues led to a key insurance
run for Binghamton. Black would issue two walks before uncorking two wild
pitches in the frame, allowing Binghamton to score that run without a hit.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Phillip
Evans made a nice play ranging up the middle in the 4th inning, and Mickey Jannis lunged to make a nice play.
