Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets made it two straight in Erie with a 6-1 win behind Casey
Delgado Wednesday night. Delgado was sharp from the start in this game, and the
B-Mets bats backed him with their second straight 10+ hit performance, led by a
second straight 4-hit night for Derrik Gibson.
The
game started innocently enough for Erie, with Derrik Gibson hitting a pop up to
shallow left that should’ve been an easy first out. Fortunately for the B-Mets,
none of the Sea Wolves fielders even touched the ball, and Gibson had hustled
to 2B for a double. Phillip Evans knocked him in with a legit double one batter
later, and the B-Mets never looked back. Gibson added a two run triple in the 4th,
an RBI groundout in the 6th, and then he singled and scored in the 9th.
Meanwhile,
Delgado cruised through his best Double-A start to date, never facing more than
4 batters in an inning. He retired 10 straight during one stretch that started
in the 3rd inning and made few mistakes on the night. Corey Jones
punished one of those mistakes to LF for his third bomb of the year in the 7th
inning, but that was the only damage against Delgado. He would finish his night
on a high note, striking out more 2 lefties in the 8th before giving
way to Tim Peterson.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights and you can check out Delgado
strikeout highlights below, so enjoy! This series wraps up Thursday morning at
11 AM, with Mickey Jannis scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets as they look for
the sweep.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
B-Mets jumped ahead with a run in the 1st when Derrik Gibson and
Phillip Evans hit consecutive doubles before an out was recorded.
L.J.
Mazzilli, Gibson, and Evans loaded the bases on 3 straight singles leading off
the 3rd inning, but the B-Mets were unable to convert a run in the
frame. Mazzilli was thrown out trying to tag up and score on a fly out from
Dominic Smith.
Binghamton
made it a 4-0 game with a three spot in the 4th. Maikis De La Cruz,
Xorge Carrillo, and L.J. Mazzilli all singled, and Derrik Gibson added a two run
triple.
Carrillo
walked and came home on an RBI groundout in the 6th inning. Stefan
Sabol reached on an infield single for the only hit of the frame.
Dominic
Smith hit his 11th double of the year in the 7th.
Gibson
and Evans picked up back-to-back hits with 0 outs again in the 9th,
and Gibson came home on a Smith groundout to cap the scoring output for
Binghamton.
