Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets dropped back to 9 games under .500 with a 5-2 loss to the
‘rival’ Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) Wednesday night. Mickey Jannis
didn’t have great command from the start in this outing, but he still found a
way to gut out a quality start. For Trenton, Vicente Campos was even better
than in his first Double-A start, limiting the B-Mets to just 1 run on 3 hits
over his 6.2 IP.
Given
the line, I guess you could say Jannis was wildly effective Wednesday night,
but he wouldn’t have made it through 6 without some help from his defense.
Still, if Jannis started a game like this in April, he would’ve been done
before completing 5 innings. This was only the second time Jannis has issued
multiple walks and gone at least 6 innings, and the first time he’s done it
with more than 2 walks issued.
The
only walk that burned Jannis for a run was the first one he issued, which came
to the first batter of the game. The Thunder jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1st
without the help of an RBI hit, and they never looked back. Neither starter
allowed much hard contact, but Campos was able to avoid the long inning.
I
take a closer look at the little offense the B-Mets put together in the next
section, and have included a few defensive plays as well. This series continues
Thursday night at 6:35 PM, with Tyler Pill (3-6, 4.43 ERA) scheduled to pitch
for the B-Mets.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Dominic
Smith led off the 2nd inning with his hit, but the B-Mets couldn’t
advance him past 1B.
Jared
King took a walk leading off the 3rd inning, stole 2B, and then
scored on L.J. Mazzilli’s hit.
Victor
Cruzado led off the 9th with a single lined into CF and would come
around to score on a sac fly from Phillip Evans.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Phil
Evans and L.J. Mazzilli were kept busy up the middle.
Xorge
Carrillo became the first person to catch Lane Adams trying to steal this
season – he had been 16-16 coming into the night.
