Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets welcomed Major League vet Josh Zeid to the organization
Saturday night by giving him a big lead early en route to his first win back in
affiliated ball. Although Double-A should be cake for the vet, he still had a
rather eye-opening start against Hartford, striking out 6 while allowing just 4
hits over 6.2 scoreless innings. Phillip Evans and Victor Cruzado led the way
on offense, as each finished with two hits, including a double, and 3 RBI’s.
Zeid is a power arm that last
pitched in the majors in 2014 and was signed out of Indy ball to take Robert
Gsellman’s rotation spot last week. His fastball ranged from the low 90’s (sinker)
to the mid 90’s (fourseamer), and he mixed in his slider and splitter. That
stuff would’ve been enough to battle last night without good command, which is
what happened in the 1st. Fortunately for Binghamton, after that he
was locating well and able to slice through this talented Yard Goats lineup
with the efficiency of a veteran.
Although Zeid didn’t need much, the
B-Mets had built up an 8-0 lead by the end of the 5th. Niuman Romero
sparked a 3-run rally in the 1st and 5th innings, which
sandwiched a pair of solo blasts: the first from Stefan Sabol and the next from
Phillip Evans.
I break down the scoring details
with highlights below so enjoy! This series wraps up Sunday afternoon at 1:05
PM, with Casey Delgado (4-2, 4.28 ERA) scheduled to start for Bignhamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Niuman
Romero’s 10th double of the season sparked the B-Mets first rally of
the game in the 1st. Dominic Smith brought him home with a two out
single into CF, the first of 3 straight two out hits. Victor Cruzado added a
single and then Phillip Evans doubled both Smith and Cruzado home for a 3-0
lead.
After
4 hits Friday, including all 3 RBI’s for the B-Mets, Stefan Sabol led off the 2nd
inning with his 3rd bomb of the season.
Phillip
Evans picked up his first Double-A homerun ever leading off the 4th
inning.
Romero
sparked the B-Mets other rally with a single in the 5th inning.
Jayce Boyd and Dominic Smith followed with hits of their own to load the bases
for Victor Cruzado, who then cleared them with a double to LF!
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Phillip
Evans had himself a nice day at the plate and playing 2B for the B-Mets.
