Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets made it two straight over Richmond with a come from behind win
Saturday night. Binghamton starter Casey Delgado was making his first start in
two weeks and he was strong over 6 IP. Richmond starter Sam Coonrod held the B-Mets
in check over the first 5+ innings, but Dominic Smith cashed in against
Richmond’s relief with a game-changing three-run homerun.
It’s
never good when a pitcher allows two homers in the same game, but both came
with the bases empty against Delgado, and he allowed very little else. He
limited Richmond to one hit in each inning, and the Flying Squirrels never had
multiple baserunners on against him.
Coonrod
racked up a high strikeout total early, which made it difficult for the B-Mets
to take advantage of some early baserunners. He was particularly effective
against the bottom of the B-Mets order, but he was efficient, which is why he
had to leave with one out in the 6th.
With
two out and Derrik Gibson on 3B in the 7th, Richmond went to
reliever Tyler Mizenko to end the threat, but he walked Matt Oberste to keep
the inning alive. That proved huge, as Dominic Smith was up next and he
launched a bomb over the LF wall for a second straight day – see below!
After
Binghamton took their first lead of the game, Alberto Baldonado came in and
retired the side in order during the 8th. David Roseboom came on to
work the 9th but would be removed with two outs and a runner on 2B.
Luis Mateo was asked to get the final out, but he allowed a pair of singles,
which made it a 4-3 game. Fortunately for Binghamton, Mateo recovered and set
down Ali Castillo swinging to end the game.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Amed
Rosario singled and stole a base in the 1st.
Xorge
Carrillo picked up his hit in the 2nd, but the B-Mets wasted a bases
loaded opportunity in the frame.
L.J.
Mazzilli and Rosario led off the 5th with back-to-back singles, and
L.J. came around to score on a passed ball.
Gibson
started the 7th inning with a single and Matt Oberste kept it alive
for Dominic Smith by drawing a two out walk. Smith then came through with the
biggest hit of the game, launching a towering blast that just cleared the wall
in LF.
