Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets jumped out to a big 7-0 lead early Sunday and then rode a
strong start from Tyler Pill to finish off their sweep of Richmond. The sweep
comes after the B-Mets lost 9 of their last 10, and coincides with the arrival
of top Mets prospect Amed Rosario.
Although
Rosario would finish with an RBI single among his two hits Sunday, the man in
front of him was a big driving force in the scoring outburst. L.J. Mazzilli is
having his best month at Double-A and that continued over the first two innings
Sunday. Both of his hits went to RF, and his two-run triple in the 2nd
gave the B-Mets a comfortable 5-0 lead.
For
B-Mets starter Tyler Pill, the start was a breeze outside of the two frames he
allowed a run. He hit the leadoff batter Ali Castillo in the 4th inning
and Castillo then came around to score on a wild pitch and RBI single from
Ryder Jones. Pill walked the next batter in the inning before a key double play
helped cut short any further rallying. Pill would strikeout Brandon Bednar to strand
a Flying Squirrel at 3B in the frame.
Pill
stayed efficient until the 8th, when a long inning pushed him too
close to 100 pitches for a chance at the complete game. He’d hand the ball off
to future major league reliever Logan Taylor, who worked a scoreless 9th.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights, plus include some defensive
gems below, so enjoy! With this series wrapped up, the B-Mets head on the road
for one 3-game series in Altoona that starts Monday night at 7:00 PM.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
B-Mets jumped ahead 3-0 in the 1st on 3 hits and a pair of Richmond throwing
errors. Derrik Gibson reached on an E6 to start the frame, and Boyd came around
to score the third run on an E9. L.J. Mazzilli singled Gibson to 3B after the
first error, and then Dominic Smith singled him home. Colton Plaia then extended
his hitting streak to 7-games when he poked an RBI single through the right
side, which led to the second error.
Binghamton
doubled their lead in the 2nd thanks mostly to Mazzilli. With Maikis
De La Cruz (walk) and Gibson (single) on the corners, Mazzilli tripled into the
RF corner to make it a 5-0 game. Amed Rosario then lined a single through the
drawn in infield to bring home L.J. with his first hit of the game.
Plaia
added a double leading off the 3rd inning and eventually came home
on a double play groundout. Stefan Sabol added his first of three hits in the frame.
Sabol’s
second hit was a two out double in the 5th inning.
Rosario
and Smith had back-to-back singles off the side arming righty Tyler Rogers in
the 7th.
Sabol’s
final hit was a leadoff single in the 8th.
