Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies dropped their third straight to the Augusta Green Jackets out of the All-Star break, taking the loss in a game dominated by pitching. Kevin Canelon and Domenic Mazza traded zeros for 5 innings before Canelon blinked, allowing a three-run homer to Junior Arias that was the difference.
Canelon always works quickly and aggressively, and his relentless attacking seems to help keep hitters off balance. He was really sharp early but the Green Jackets put together a big threat against him in the 5th and then broke the scoreless tie with that homer in the 6th.
Unlike Canelon, Augusta’s starter Mazza didn’t slow down until the 8th. Mazza set down 10 straight before the 8th, but was removed after a run scored with one out in the inning.
Tyler Bashlor was very sharp after taking over for Canelon, striking out 5 of the first 8 batters to face him, and finishing with 3 scoreless innings. Unfortunately for the Columbia faithful, the Fireflies didn’t have enough comeback magic in them on this Saturday night.
I break down the scoring details with highlights below, so enjoy! This series wraps up Sunday evening at 5:05 PM, with Tyler Badamo (3-4, 3.96 ERA) expected to start for the Fireflies.

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights

J.C. Rodriguez started the 1st with a single but never made it beyond 2B.

Vicente Lupo picked up a hit leading off the 3rd.

Jeff Diehl picked up a hit to put two runners on in the 4th, but a double play ended the threat.

Natanael Ramos sparked the only Cola rally with a single in the 8th. After a fielder’s choice replaced him on the basepaths, Lupo doubled off the top of the wall to get two runners in scoring position. Both came home without a hit in the frame.

MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights

Kevin Canelon handled a comebacker nicely in the 4th.

Canelon finished a perfect 1st with a strikeout of Miguel Gomez.

With one on and one out in the 3rd, Canelon set down Lucius Fox on a called strike 3.

Fox came up with two in scoring position and one out in the 5th inning and Canelon set him down swinging this time.

He allowed a leadoff double in the 6th inning, but then struckout Matt Winn for the first out of the frame.

Tyler Bashlor

Bashlor worked a perfect 8th, striking out Jalen Miller and Dylan Davis along the way.

The Green Jackets got two baserunners against Bashlor in the 8th, but he struck out three in the inning: Matt Winn, Skyler Ewing, and Seth Harrison.
